Food pod Checkpoint 221 in West Salem is now open with more than a dozen food carts.

Construction for Checkpoint 221 began last July, and the space opened earlier this summer. Checkpoint 221 did not respond to the Statesman Journal's request for comment.

The food pod space is open but the pavilion with additional indoor seating is still under construction.

Checkpoint 221 is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Sunday. It is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The food pod is located at 1233 Riverbend Road NW.

Bobablastic

The boba and small snacks food cart has a presence at almost all the food truck pods in the Salem area. You can find boba drinks, smoothies, tea, rice bowls, fried treats and more.

Cherry City Wings

Cherry City Wings opened its first cart at Beehive Station and now its second at Checkpoint 221.

The fried chicken cart offers traditional and boneless wings, sandwiches and more. Checkout the cart's menu for its hot pepper-shaped scale of hot sauces, including a recently released ghost pepper chicken sandwich.

Dreaming of Sushi

Dreaming of Sushi hails from Corvallis, offering sushi rolls and other Japanese-inspired foods like teriyaki and bento boxes. Checkpoint 221 will be their third location, with their others at The Barn at Hickory Station in Albany and The Yard food park.

Eddy's Phillys

Eddy's Phillys continues to expand and offer its signature sandwiches and more. Besides the traditional sandwich, you can get order twists on it, baked potatoes and a variety of sides. The food truck has also operated at The Yard food park.

El Sazon De Mi Casa

El Sazon De Mi Casa serves Guatemalan food, featuring chucas and enchiladas. Other offerings include tortas, tacos and more. The food cart also has a second location in Keizer at Copper Creek Mercantile.

Gardenia Thai Kitchen

From the owners of Jasmine Thai Kitchen at The Yard food park comes Gardenia Thai Kitchen. The food cart offers similar dishes to their sister cart, with Thai classics like pad thai, pad see ew, various fried appetizers, Tom yum soup and more.

Gyropoulos

Gyropoulos has expanded to a fourth location with its latest cart at Checkpoint 221. Like its name, the cart offers gyros and ample sides to share. The other locations include Beehive Station, The Yard food park and The Pines Dine in Lincoln City.

Los Argentinos

Los Argentinos is serving up authentic Argentinian food. On the menu includes empanadas, sandwiches and sides.

Nanay's Ba-Hi

Nanay's Ba-Hi offers Filipino cuisine. The food cart is also at The Yard food park.

Pastatastic

Pastatastic offers fresh pasta and salads that are fully customizable and made to order.

Quesadilla Wizards

Quesadilla Wizards offers spins on quesadillas. Menu items are creatively named with references to pop culture. The cart was previously stationed at Beehive Station.

Sweet Seoul

Sweet Seoul offers taiyaki and other Asian-inspired street foods. On the menu are taiyaki, which are Japanese fish shaped waffles with a filling inside, and Korean corndogs.

Taqueria Arandas

Taqueria Arandas offers authentic Mexican food including quesabirria, menudo, fajitas, tamales and more.

Tin Roof Bistro by Street Sweets

Tin Roof Bistro by Street Sweets has brought burgers, shakes, desserts, breakfast items and more to the food cart pod. The menu of primarily sweet treats offers the same variety as at its first location at The Yard food park.
