13th annual Electric City Tattoo Convention kicks off

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An annual event created quite the buzz in the Electric City Saturday afternoon in a colorful way.

A tattoo shop in a hotel is the way one of the organizers 28/22 News spoke with described Saturday’s artistic event.

This tattoo convention brought artists from both near and far.

That was the sound that could be heard through the halls at the 13th annual Electric City Tattoo Convention. This event is also a way for people with similar interests to come together.

“It’s just a great way to network. I’ve been doing conventions since 1999 and you know great way to meet people get new business meet other artists share experiences learn knowledge,” said Michael Watson a tattoo artist.

Watson says after traveling and doing tattoos all around the world his favorite memory is also his most unique one.

“I backpacked through Cambodia and worked in tattoo studios along the way, and then popped out to Vietnam at the same thing. I think that was probably the craziest experience I’ve ever had with tattooing,” stated Waston.

“What was your biggest takeaway from that experience?” asked 28/22 News

“From that experience, you know that we’re all one you know. tattooing brings people together,” answered Waston.

Another artist from North Carolina has been coming for the past three years and tattooing for more than a decade. he says the best part about what he does is seeing someone’s imagination come to life through his work.

“It’s a career that has never been a job so you deal with people’s imagination daily and you deal with creating things for people and watching someone’s like thought become a reality and permanently going with them for the rest of their life,” explained Greg Dehoot a tattoo artist.

One of the organizers says that the goal is to have a good time and leave better than you came.

“Like a good level like positive energy, you know, and hopefully that’s contagious and we all get to kind of like feed off of that and you and have a really good time this weekend but then also leave as an artist and feel invigorated and inspired to like keep on making art,” added Elijah Britel the organizer.

They also had other vendors there selling t-shirts and food and even had a barber there.

The Scranton tattoo convention continues Sunday from noon until 8:00 p.m.
