13 Swivel Chairs for a Better-Looking, More Functional Space

A swivel chair is just more practical. A good-looking accent chair adds value to a room, and comfy lounge chair is a great spot for reading. But, a swivel chair can do both. It's the ultimate combination of form and function. The same way a reclining sofa beats out luxury sofas, leather sofas, sectional sofas, futons, and deep sofas, a swivel chair just offers a little something extra.
That said, what makes a great swivel chair? It could be the material. We love linen and leather, but there are plenty of poly-blends that are easier to care for, if that's your thing. Beyond that, we love the practical design and luxe look of mid-century chairs, but we can't deny the comfort of more contemporary models. And last of all, you've gotta think about how much space you have. If you're working with a small apartment, don't get a giant chair. It's that simple.
Within all those parameters, our home experts tested a bunch of swivel chairs. We put them all through their paces, and convened to talk about which ones we like the most. Whether for comfort, practicality, or looks these are the 13 swivel chairs we swear by. Here's where to spend your money.
Deacon Leather Swivel Recliner
This big leather swivel chair from Arhaus does it all. The plush seat and high reclined back make it incredibly comfortable, and the high-quality leather will patina beautifully over time.
Hamilton Leather Swivel Chair
There's plenty of reading chairs on this list—something you sit on for your morning coffee or nightly reading. This is not one of those chairs. This chair and a half is big enough for lounging on all day, and the circular shape makes it all the better for cozying up. Bring your legs up, get comfortable, and binge a new series.
If that's not what you're looking for, Article makes it as a normal-sized chair, as well.
Cigar Rawhide Tan Swivel Chair
If you want something a bit Bauhaus, a bit contemporary, Article's square swivel chair is a great option. The sharp shape commands the attention of a room, but the leather upholstery helps it fit in anywhere and ages beautifully.
Walsh Leather Glider
There's nothing I love more than a rocking chair. A Cracker Barrel style rocking chair is too folksy, too Cracker Barrel for most people. A gliding chair is a nice modern alternative. This one from Arhaus is my favorite on the market.
Zadie Chair
The Zadie Chair is simple, and that's why we love it. The mid-century design fits any sort of decor. The price is good, and we especially love the performance twill or canvas options.
Arden Swivel Armchair
The Arden armchair is one of our favorite contemporary takes on mid-century shapes. It's low-slung, but the high back makes it especially comfortable. Beyond that, the shape is handsome. Oddly, we prefer this performance fabric option to the full leather one. It offers a nice contrast, and it's just more comfortable out of the box.
Kennedy Swivel Chair
Need something to stand out? TOV does that. The brand's swivel chairs skew a bit feminine, but this Kennedy chair in blue, black, or green hits straight down the middle. It's a simple shape, but it's got enough flair if that's what you're looking for. And since the price isn't too outrageous, it's a great fit for a lot of buyers.
Garret Armchair
Bouclé is a big fabric at the moment. It adds some texture to a room, even when it's done in a neutral color. Of all the bouclé swivel chairs out there, this one from Soho Home is our favorite. The shape is perfectly symmetrical. The way the lines feed into the seat feels fractal. Don't know how to explain it, but it looks amazing in person—whether that's in a city apartment or a country home.
Fitz Velvet Swivel Chair
Like bouclé, velvet adds texture to a room, but it's also the best fabric out there for taking color. CB2 generally does our interpretations of velvet. This deep green fits beautiful in any room, but the russet velvet adds a big pop of color. If you want a statement, this is it.
Maxwell Swivel Chair
These last couple of options are all crowd pleasers. They'll work for pretty much anyone. The Maxwell from Interior Define is going to be the most comfortable of the bunch. The extra deep seat and plush back just make it the perfect reading or movie watching chair.
The Dune Chair
Very few buyers are going to find something to hate on this chair. With our experts, everyone saw a world where The Dune Chair could be in their home. It's a simple shape upholstered in performance linen. It's a crowd pleaser.
Miramar Chair
If you want the best, you go to the best. When it comes to linen furniture, nobody does it like Jenni Kayne. The Miramar chair is simple in shape, but the linen is second to none. If you've got a sun room or beach house to furnish, this is your chair.
Swivel Accent Chair
Of course, if you're looking to furnish on a budget, you can always turn to Amazon. Bezos and Co. has a massive selection, but this accent chair would be our choice. The fabric is fine. The look is standard. And, the price is right. What more do you need?
