“13 Reasons Why” Has Officially Wrapped Filming

“This has been something that I don’t think I’ll ever feel again.”

The cast of 13 Reasons Why is saying a final goodbye.

According to several actors’ posts on social media, the Netflix series has officially wrapped filming on its fourth and final season — and the stars are getting sentimental. Just ask Ross Butler, who posted a tearful farewell to his journey as Zach Dempsey.

In the video shared to Instagram on December 20, Ross spoke directly into the camera seemingly fighting back tears while sharing his heartfelt gratitude to the cast and the fans. “The first thing I want to say is thank you for the last four years of support,” he said. “You guys have made this process so amazing, and all the fans that have reached out and…told us your stories, how you opened up to your families and friends, that has meant to the world to us. I think I speak for everyone on the cast when I say: That’s why we do this.”

The actor went on to note that the series, which first premiered in 2017, has changed his life “in more ways that you can imagine.” He ended with one more emotional thank-you, adding: “This has been something that I don’t think I’ll ever feel again…. So, until next time, until season 4 when you guys get to see all of us one more time: I’ll see you guys on the next one.”

And Ross isn’t the only one getting wistful about saying goodbye to the 13RW journey. Alisha Boe, who plays Jessica Davis, commented “I love you” on Ross's video, adding several photos to her IG story with broken heart emojis for emphasis. Justin Prentice, AKA Bryce Walker, posted a handful of photos with his co-stars, as did Brandon Flynn (Justin Foley), while Devin Druid parted ways with Tyler Down’s camera equipment.

Christian Navarro, who portrayed Tony Padilla, shared a touching goodbye letter to his character, writing: “Playing this character has made me a better man. It’s allowed me the great honor of representing people who may feel unheard, unwanted, and unloved. You are heard. You are wanted. You are loved. Whoever you are, whatever your story, your integrity will guide you through the darkest nights. Be kind, and be brave.” (There was also a goodbye tribute to Tony’s car, which is a character in and of itself.)

Dylan Minnette, who played the show's protagonist Clay Jensen, called the experience of filming 13RW a "life-changing four years," adding that it's an era he will never forget. Timothy Granaderos Jr., known in the fictional Liberty High as Montgomery "Monty" de la Cruz, Instagrammed a funny cast video, writing: "It’s all those moments in between that I’ll miss."

No word yet on when the fourth season will hit Netflix. Season 3 made its debut in August 2019, following a year-plus hiatus. And while the third season’s finale sure cleared up one of the show’s biggest mysteries so far (Who Killed Bryce Walker?) there are plenty of unanswered questions that remain.
