Martha
It's a universal fact: Martha knows how to take a great selfie. But few have rivaled her famous pool photo taken in 2020—until now, that is. Before heading off to Art Basel in Miami last week, our founder snapped a shot that gave her sultry summer selfie a run for its money.
In the viral Instagram post (which received over 67,000 likes!), the lifestyle mogul showed off her makeup in an effortlessly chic mirror selfie. "It was actually an accident," says Martha's makeup artist, Daisy Toye. "We just kept talking and playing and I just kept going. It wasn't planned to look so good, but it looked so good."
The end result? The ultimate beachy, smoky eye. The look is all the inspiration you need the next time you reach for your makeup bag. But if you want to achieve the glowing skin and lip color combination seen in our founder's shot, it helps to have a few of the same products. Here, Daisy shares everything you need to pull off Martha's latest selfie.
Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40
Start by applying a layer of this two-in-one sunscreen and primer. "I have been loving the Supergoop tinted sunscreen," Daisy says. "There's almost a glow to it." The hydrating product is formulated with SPF 40, so it leaves the skin hydrated and protected.
Clé de Peau Beauté Foundation SPF 22
The foundation used to achieve Martha's look is from one of her favorite beauty brands: Clé de Peau Beauté. The lightweight product is infused with skin care ingredients designed to blur imperfections and reduce the look of fine lines.
Kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation SPF 25
Daisy mixes the Clé de Peau Beauté foundation with this one from Kosas and uses a foundation brush to apply it to Martha's face. "I love when her skin is flawless. I've been using a different combination of stuff, and it just works so well," she says.
Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush
Always opt for cream blush over powder, which leaves a hydrated finish. For Martha's look, Daisy used this option from Rare Beauty. "I work it into my hand first to break it up because it's so potent," she says. Then dip a small foundation brush into the product and apply to the cheeks.
Dior Forever Natural Bronze
Daisy wanted Martha's makeup to look beachy—that was the main goal. To give our founder a sun-kissed glow, Daisy used Dior bronzer. The soft product blends seamlessly with the skin for a natural result.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder
Set your face makeup with this weightless powder to extend the longevity of your base. But don't go overboard with application. "You just need powder in your T-zone," Daisy says.
Makeup by Mario Master Matte Eyeshadow Palette
Using a palette that has matte options—like this one from Makeup by Mario—allows for better control when creating a bolder eye look. "If you don't have one of those big fancy palettes, just use some of your bronzer," Daisy says.
L'Oreal Paris Infallible Lacquer Liner
For any sultry, smoky eye, you need an incredible liner on the top eyelid. For Martha's look, Daisy used this one from L'Oreal—it's the artist's favorite makeup product of all time. "I put the gel liner underneath her upper lash, just to get her lashes looking fuller and bigger," she says.
Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel Eyeliner Pencil
Line the bottom lash with a gel pencil, like this one from Pat McGrath. "I put a line and then I put some powder underneath it to pack it on," Daisy says. "In order for things to have some longevity, you have to layer."
Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift Mascara
To get Martha's long lashes, apply two to three coats of this Maybelline mascara. "It's the best mascara on the planet—hands down," Daisy says. "It curls your lashes and makes them look long and thick and with the way the brush is shaped, it gets right to the root."
MAC Lip Pencil in Stone
Use a pencil to achieve picture-picture lips. "My one lip liner I can't live without is from MAC—it's in the shade Stone," Daisy says. "I use that just to contour the lip a little."
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner
After contouring the lips, go back in with this liner from Charlotte Tilbury in the shade Pillow Talk. Daisy uses the product in place of lipstick, covering Martha's entire mouth.
Dior Lip Glow Oil
Complete the lip look with a swipe of this glow oil—the product is infused with cherry oil, which nourishes, softens, and revitalizes the lips—and, just like that, you're selfie-ready.
