A multi-state outbreak of salmonella infections has been linked to frozen ground tuna, the CDC and FDA report. So far, there have been 13 illnesses and two hospitalizations related to the case.

On April 15, Jensen Tuna voluntarily recalled tuna imported from JK Fish of Vietnam that had been shipped to Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, and Washington. The recalled items were packaged in one-pound bags and sold in 20-pound boxes to distributors. They have lot numbers z266, z271, and z272. While the product affected likely was not sold to customers in grocery stores, the tuna could have been sold to local restaurants.

Restaurants and retailers have been instructed to not sell or serve the recalled tuna and to wash and sanitize spaces where the recalled tuna was stored or prepared. If you live in one of the seven states listed, you can confirm with local restaurants their product was not part of the recall before ordering things like tuna and spicy tuna rolls.

Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. If you have symptoms like this that you think might be salmonella related, contact your doctor immediately.
