Jennifer Lopez is a fan, too.

With the exception of Pond’s Cold Cream, few beauty products have transcended time like L'Oréal’s Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray. Reportedly released back in the ‘60s, it’s since become a widespread staple for celebrity hairstylists, my 72-year-old mom (who's been team Elnett since its inception), and yours truly.

Celebrity stylist Dimitris Giannetos, who has worked with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Amal Clooney, relied on Elnett’s strong hold spray to add natural-looking hold and shine to Megan Fox’s new racy red bob. Celebrities including Jennifer Lopez — who, back in 2020, revealed that she carries a travel-sized version in her purse — have also praised the reasonably priced high-performer. Even shoppers at Amazon ( 3,000 of whom have given it a five-star rating) are duly impressed by the spray, which is on sale at the site for $13.

As the name implies, the L'Oréal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray is a firm-hold aerosol hair spray. It features a natural-looking drydown, flake-free finish, and a surprisingly strong hold despite its soft look and feel; crunchiness, helmet-like stiffness, and virtually any other downfall associated with strong-hold hairspray are decidedly absent.

Earlier this year, the iconic style-preserving spray underwent a formula makeover; now featuring a mere six ingredients, the modern revamp is a pared-down improvement to its predecessor. Despite the newer, less-is-more formula, however, Elnett retains the stronghold, style-preserving magic for which it’s always been praised.

Versatility is among the most compelling elements of Elnett, which can secure styles ranging from sleek strands to tousled bobs. Per the brand, it “disappears with the stroke of a brush,” which I’ve found to be true. Simply spray, wait a few moments for its setting magic to set in, and freely brush hair, comb it into place, or leave as-is. Regardless of how it's incorporated, the hair spray maintains your style all day with added humidity resistance and a soft, subtle sheen.

I keep a can of Elnett in my hair supply at all times. Frankly, the $13 option outperforms most of my pricier formulas. It’s excellent for securing sleek ponytails, beachy waves, and smoothing flyaways effortlessly, and without the overglossed finish inherent to most strong hold formulas.

And, of course, Amazon fans agree. One shopper, who snagged Elnett after noticing stylists on TV wielding the hairspray, calls it “the best aerosol spray on the market,” citing its strong hold and stiffness-free finish as two key draws. “Hair still moves after you use it,”says another, and the formula “brushes out at night” without leaving an “oily or dirty” film or feel. Yet another Elnett fan says the formula has “a light touch,” adding that it dispenses “evenly, [in] a light mist,” and resists the “lacquered” look of many strong-hold hairsprays.

For a celebrity-used, stylist-approved hairspray that delivers a strong hold sans crunchiness or flaking, shop the L'Oréal Elnett Strong Hold Hair Spray at Amazon for $13. After all, there’s a reason this product has remained ultra-popular for over four decades.
