Or, if you’d rather one that can serve several functions as a crossbody, shoulder, and top-handle bag, look for styles with convertible and adjustable straps and handles.
Storage features: Tote bags generally come with one wide, main compartment, but many luxury leather options offer more storage features to organize your haul. If you are looking to carry valuables, smaller items, or tech, select a leather tote with multiple pockets and secure closures.

David Mesquita, Vice President of Leather Spa in New York City, recommends full grain or top-grain leather for supreme durability. How to clean genuine leather tote bags: For a luxe leather bag that’s gotten dirty or dusty, Mesquita first recommends using a damp cloth to wipe off residue. However, if the leather needs a deeper clean, he says to “use a leather-specific cleaner recommended for your type of leather,” whether its calf leather, lamb leather, or cowhide. Upon purchasing your leather tote, check to see if the brand offers its own leather cleansing product, like Coach’s Leather Cleaner, as this will ensure the most gentle and effective clean.
How to clean vegan leather tote bags: Similarly to genuine leather, its best to start by wiping your tote with a soft, damp cloth before going in for a deeper clean. Mesquita explains that vegan leather is often more forgiving than genuine leather, so “you can gently hand wash it in cold water with mild soap.” However, he warns against vigorous scrubbing or wringing to avoid tears or compromising its shape.
