12 Upcycled Furniture Pieces That Prove It’s A-OK To Paint the Dang Wood
Each time a furniture flipper shares a stunning transformation video of their upcycled wooden furniture online, the comments section is filled with the following: Oohs, ahhs, and questions about materials used. Then, you're bound to spot some version of "Stop painting over wood" in the comments. Boooo! Within a chorus of people singing their praises and I-wanna-try-this questions ringing off, the painting wood boycott is so off-key.
Not only do I think those comments could be saved for an Unpainted Wood fan club, I also vehemently disagree on the topic. Paint the dang wood y'all!
To further encourage you, here are some upcycled furniture pieces that prove it's A-OK to just paint the dang wood if that's what makes you feel warm inside.
1. Nomadtimber on Etsy shows a creative and colorful way to highlight wood grain with their hand-stained coffee and dining tables.

4. Once a brown dumpster throwaway, now a green and gold goddess of a credenza. Her name's "Edith" by the way. She was upcycled by furniture flipper and TikToker, @ShenPerkins.
The credenza sold for $350 on Facebook Marketplace, by the way.
5. This vintage wooden armoire will brighten up any bedroom with its Cinderella blue paint color and floral design. Etsy seller Maia managed to add a paint color without minimizing the original vintage style of the piece.
6. Upcycling artist Alicia Martinez transformed this scratched-up grey wood nightstand into a lavender statement piece providing a pop of color for her bedroom.
7. Watch Rachel Verney of @TheShoestringHome give this sad wooden cabinet a green paint and floral print contact paper glow-up.
8. Verney also gave this wooden cabinet a peach and orange checkered print refresh using Valspar furniture paint in Shrimp Shell and Peach Rose colors.

10. This upcycled wooden nightstand from Beaumont Designs UK on Etsy boasts a bold print using spray paint and vinyl.
"I’m Chris, the person behind Beaumont Design. I created this business because myself and my wife absolutely love colorful furniture and when we couldn’t find the perfect piece for our home I started making them," the owner wrote about why he upcycles furniture in this style.
11. TikToker @ExtremeFurnitureMakeover decided to go green with this wooden antique China cabinet and it's PERFECT.
We've already gushed over this gorgeous hutch update so it couldn't NOT make this list of examples where painting the wood was the way to go. The color was custom-created with a mix of multiple green paint colors including Eucalyptus from Fusion Mineral Paint!
12. This solid wood table now has Alice In Wonderland vibes thanks to the checkered paint job from Gina Kellogg of Kellogg Curiosities. Just beautiful!
Now, wasn't this a fabulous rabbit hole to go down? My point stands: PAINT THE WOOD.
