While some celebrities might be a little more conservative with spending their money, many others love spending their hard-earned riches on pretty extravagant and, dare I say, bizarre items. Let's just say I'm scratching my head at some of these purchases.
1.Pete Davidson and Colin Jost recently teamed up to buy a decommissioned Staten Island ferry boat.
Pete Davidson and his former SNL costar, Colin Jost bought the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat in April 2022. The two comedians joined a group of investors to bid on the ferry for $280,000 in an auction earlier this year.
Reportedly, the duo is planning on turning their new splurge into a floating entertainment venue.
Sign me up if Pete will be in attendance to do some stand-up.
2.Back when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were still a couple, he bought her an entire plane.
As a wedding gift to his bride, Tom bought Katie a $20 million private jet. According to Cosmopolitan, a source said at the time, "Tom wanted to come up with the most amazing wedding gift ever, something that would make her life so much better than a big diamond on her finger."
Speaking of private jets, many celebrities have been facing backlash recently for their reckless use of private jets.
3.Celine Dion clearly hates dry air because she bought herself a ridiculously expensive humidifier.
According to Women's Health, in 2002, during Celine's three-year residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, she purchased a humidifier for $2 million. The humidifier was installed above the stage to "preserve her singing voice in the harsh desert climate."
4.Ashton Kutcher bought a $200K ticket to space — and didn't even end up going.
According to CBS News, in 2012, Ashton signed up for a $200k ticket to Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson's venture to launch tourists into space. At the time, Richard wrote, "I gave Ashton a quick call to congratulate and welcome him."
"He is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself."
However, Ashton later explained that he didn't go on the trip, saying, "When I got married and had kids, my wife encouraged that it was not a smart family decision to be heading into space when we have young children."
5.Elton John spent over $400K on flowers.
Elton John justified his $418,340 florist bill by saying he is a "single man who likes flowers and has money to spend." He reportedly spent the cash over 20 months.
6.Kendall Jenner purchased a $52K knitted sofa.
There are expensive couches, and then there are expensive couches. Kendall proved that to be true when she bought a knitted sofa (I have a lot of questions) designed by the Campana brothers for Edra for over $50K in 2016.
7.Kim Basinger bought the town of Braselton, Georgia for $20 million cash.
The actress purchased the town over 30 years ago in her home state of Georgia as an investment. At the time, she had plans to transform it into a tourist destination with movie and music studios.
Unfortunately, not much came of the town, and after facing some financial struggles, Kim — and the investors she purchased the town with — ended up losing her money on the investment. She reportedly had to sell her shares of the investment, and none of her plans for the Georgia town came to fruition.
8.Steven Spielberg bought a piece of movie memorabilia for $60K.
Steven purchased a famous 'Rosebud' sled from the 1941 film Citizen Kane for a little over $60k back in the 1980s. While the sled was kept on display in his office for years, he eventually gifted it to the Academy Museum so more people could see it.
9.Kim Kardashian and Kanye West bought a very extravagant Christmas gift for North one year.
Kim and Kanye bid on a Michael Jackson jacket at an auction for over $65K to give to their oldest daughter, North. Apparently North was a huge fan.
10.Kelly Rowland bought Blue Ivy a pricey gift before she was even born.
Kelly spent $5,200 on a Swarovski crystal-studded baby bathtub for Blue Ivy at Beyoncé's and Jay-Z's baby shower for their firstborn.

The dedicated artist that she is, Beyoncé didn't cut any corners on her stage outfit during the 2007 BET Awards. The singer reportedly spent a whopping $100K on a pair of gold Balenciaga leggings.
