If you’re going to fit everything you need into your teeny tiny kitchen, you’re going to need a little help. Here are some of the best products out there for making the most of your small space.
A wall-mounted magnetic knife rack is a great way to keep your knives within easy reach, and save a little drawer space. Try the Grundtal, from IKEA ($14.99).
A pot rail is the greatest little kitchen workhorse. Mount one above your countertop, and use it to store pretty much anything you can hang on a hook. Or mount one on the wall, and use it to store actual pots. Things you use often will be easily accessible, and you’ll save tons of drawer and cabinet space. You can find a similar rail (and lots of coordinating products, like hooks and cubbies) at IKEA.
You can save a lot of floor space by mounting your trash can on the inside of a cabinet door. Plus, you won’t have to look at a trash can. This model is from Simplehuman, and is available on Amazon for $29.99.
Short on counter space? Try a cutting board that perches above unused burners on the stove. This one is $99 from Local Made. If budget is a concern, you can find another variation for only $19 here. (There’s also a DIY version from The Kitchn here!)
Get paper towels off the counter by mounting a paper towel holder on the underside of your cabinets. This one, by Plew Plew, is available from Amazon for $19.99.
Magnetic spice containers are helpful for corralling all sorts of sundries around the kitchen, not just spices (although they’re good for that, too). You can stick them on any metal surface, or to the side of the refrigerator. Find this set of 12 on Amazon for $34.
A cabinet shelf effectively doubles your cabinet space — and saves you from having to lift up a huge stack of plates to get to the one on the bottom. This variety, from Amazon, comes in lots of different sizes, starting at $7.28.
Keep everything within easy reach with a lazy susan — great for smaller items like spices and tea. This one, from The Container Store ($24.99) is two-tiered for double the fun.
Wine glasses are beautiful, and always nice to have around when you’ve got company, but they sure do take up a lot of space in the cabinet. A stemware rack that mounts under the cabinet will save you a ton of space. This one, from Amazon, is $14.99 and holds up to 9 glasses.
Nothing transforms a small kitchen quite like a kitchen cart; suddenly, you have extra storage space and counter space. I have the one pictured above, from Target, and I love it; the IKEA Bekvam is also a great, simple option.
A basket that hooks over your cabinet door is a good spot for cleaning supplies — they’ll be much easier to reach, and you’ll gain a little extra storage space. This size is $6.64 from Amazon.
You probably don’t have a lot of magazines in your kitchen, but a magazine file, mounted to the inside of a cabinet door, is a great place to stash long, narrow boxes like Saran wrap and aluminum foil. We got the idea from The Wandmaker’s mother; you can find a similar magazine file here.
