1. You’ll check their texts ASAP even though you have 11 unreads from other people. If those other people want a timely response, they should try being as funny and engaging as your BFF, just saying.

2. Your hangouts are somehow even better when you have no plans. You’ve taken some fun trips together, but some of your best memories are when you just hung out at your house doing nothing but watching TV, or grabbed a quick drink that turned into a five-hour drink.

3. Deciding if you like their new boo takes forever. Oh, she has a new boyfriend? Wonderful! You’ll just need to peruse his online records, deep-stalk his Instagram until the first pic from four years ago, and get to know him over a period of six months before you agree that he is, in fact, worthy of the honor of dating your best friend.

4. Other people throw off the two-person dynamic you have. It’s not that you’re against expanding your friend group, and that work friend your BFF brought along is really nice, but the song playing in this bar reminds you of a very specific memory with your BFF that you reaaaaally want to reference and laugh at together, but now you'd have to explain the whole story to a third person?? Hard pass on new friends.

5. You die laughing about things no one else finds funny but you two. See? This is why no new friends are needed.

6. Anyone hacking your phones would be seriously weirded out if they read your texts. You’ve had entire, hour-long competitions of just trying to gross each other out. It would be too much for anyone’s eyes but your own, honestly.

7. You can tell them right away when you’re mad at them. There’s no awkward deliberating or typing and deleting and retyping three drafts of a long text. You know they won’t get defensive or rude if you call them out in the moment.

8. You’ve gotten over-the-top dramatic when defending them. Even if your BFF chooses to brush off a snide comment or moment of tension with someone else, you are ready to pounce. RIP, anyone who tries to sass or goss about your girl.

9. If you switch jobs or move away, you still talk effortlessly every day. There’s no pressure to feel like you have to consciously be online more or stressfully squeeze in Skype time to keep up a fading friendship. Things are different, but they’re also exactly the same – you’re just on g-chat instead of your go-to bar.

10. You legitimately feel your mood drop when they’re MIA for a while. On the occasions where they go to Europe for a week and international texts are $$$, your week is inexplicably trash (until they send you a photo anyway).

11. You’ll cancel plans just to be with your friend when they need you. If she’s going through a breakup or serious work drama, you’re down to raincheck your after-work drinks with anyone else just so you can be there for her.

12. Talking to them feels like free therapy that’s also way more fun. Obviously, this doesn’t actually count as real therapy, but it comes pretty damn close when you can air out your deepest secrets for hours and have your BFF crack a joke right when you need it most.
