If there is anyone out there who still considers anal sex taboo, please revisit your feelings because it's a normal, natural, and intimate part of many people's relationships. But, because movies tend to be a few steps behind when it comes to sex/nudity (lest they be slapped with a dreaded NC-17), anal isn't often shown in films - even in non-explicit ways. So when it is featured, it's a big deal. Here, a few films that embraced anal sex:

Note: Last Tango in Paris has been purposefully excluded from this list due to the lack of consent during the film's famed anal sex scene.

Wet Hot American Summer

Wet Hot American Summer is one of the greatest cult comedies of all time (it's on Netflix, FYI, watch it immediately), and features an anal sex scene between Michael Ian Black and Bradley Cooper's characters. "I remember we kept our socks on. The big tube socks," Cooper said of the scene. "We put a lot of that sweat stuff, you know, that glistening gel. And then we were up against-yeah, it was nuts... The joke of that scene was to make it the one serious scene in the whole movie."

Silver

Silver has what *appears* to be an anal sex scene between Sharon Stone's and William Baldwin's characters, but it's slightly hard to tell by the positioning - they do it standing up against a giant pillar. If they aren't doing anal, whoever choreographed the scene didn't do a great job with, um, penis placement.

Body of Evidence

Madonna and Willem Dafoe starred in a hiiiiiighly sex-packed movie together - about the sadomasochistic relationship between a woman and her lawyer. Body of Evidence features an anal sex scene, which - like other scenes in the film - incorporates handcuffs. Head's up, it's slightly uncomfortable to watch Madonna's character go from pain to pleasure, and the lines of consent seem somewhat blurred towards the beginning of the scene (she's trying to cuff him, and he ends up cuffing her).

Body Heat

Kathleen Turner and William Hurt had a *much* talked about anal sex scene in the infamously erotic movie Body Heat, which, FYI was made in 1981. The scene in question simply shows Turner from the waist up, but it's pretty clear what's happening.

Brokeback Mountain

The sex in Brokeback Mountain was a huge deal for mainstream gay representation in film, and featured Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger's characters having passionate and frenzied sex in a tent.

Bad Santa

We're not exactly sure that Bad Santa offers up the most sex-positive portrayal of anal (it's mostly treated as a joke, which, eye-roll), but they still made the decision to have Billy Bob Thornton's character be a guy who likes having anal sex with women - and does so in a dressing room.

Nymphomaniac

Nymphomaniac features many anal scenes (the main character loses her virginity through anal sex), but most famously features a scene of double penetration in the uncut version. Warning: It's extremely graphic.

Bridget Jones' Diary

Before you fly into a panic, no, you didn't miss an anal sex scene in Bridget Jones' Diary. But there was a reference to one, which is so uncharacteristic of a mainstream romantic comedy set in England, that we had to put it on this list. The scene in question? When Bridget and Daniel are in bed together and she makes a thinly veiled joke about what they just did being illegal in some countries. Then Daniel jokes that he'll do it again, and tells Bridget to "turn over." Yup.

Kill Your Darlings

Danielle Radcliff filmed an anal sex scene in Kill Your Darlings, a movie in which he plays a college-age Allen Ginsberg. "[Radcliff had] no issue doing the scene whatsoever," director John Krokidas said. "His only question was, 'Just so I know, how naked do you want me to be - movie-naked or Equus-naked?' I said, 'I hate when people block sex scenes in order to play hide-the-genitalia - that feels so forced. So let’s just block it, and if it falls into frame, we’ll shoot it.'"

I Love You Phillip Morris

Jim Carrey plays real-life con artist Steven Jay Russell in this sweet movie about a man who falls in love with a fellow prison inmate (a.k.a. Phillip Morris) and does everything in his power to be with him - including escaping from behind bars four times. The film doesn't shy away from sex scenes, and they're pretty graphic.

The Wolf of Wall Street

In The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio plays real life Wall Street stockbroker/scam artist Jordan Belfort. The film chronicles the height of Belfort's drug- and sex-filled debauchery, and includes a scene with DiCaprio's character being anally penetrated with a candle during a night with a prostitute.

Monster's Ball

Halle Berry made history as the first black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Monster's Ball. The film featured an intense anal sex scene between Berry and costar Billy Bob Thornton.
