If you decide to dive into Suits, you'll have a lengthy journey ahead—it aired nine seasons. The show focuses on lawyers and other employees at the fictional Pearson Hardman law firm—their cases and their personal lives, of course—with the initial hook being that a man who did not attend law school is secretly hired by one of the partners as an associate. The cast includes Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, and a pre-royal Meghan Markle.
How to Get Away with Murder
Viola Davis stars in How to Get Away with Murder as Annalise Keating, a lawyer and professor. The first season involves a few of Annalise's students becoming interns at her firm, and they all end up involved in a murder investigation. With six seasons, you can imagine the drama only continues from there.
Law School is somewhat similar to How to Get Away with Murder as it's about a group of law students, rather than lawyers at a firm. In the case of this Korean show, the students become mixed up in an investigation when their professor (Kim Myung-min) is arrested as a murder suspect. The group of students then work to prove his innocence.
Travel back to the turn of the millennium with Ally McBeal, all about the attorneys at the law firm Cage & Fish. The series focuses on the personal life of the title character, played by Calista Flockhart, and the various romances between characters at the firm. This dramedy also gives you something most other law shows don't: surrealism. (Does the "dancing baby" ring a bell?)
Better Call Saul
The Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul puts the focus on Bob Odenkirk's Saul Goodman character. The series begins before the events of Breaking Bad and shows Saul's move from a conman to a criminal defense attorney prior to joining up with chemist-turned-drug-lord Walter White (Bryan Cranston).
Fan of both lawyer shows and superheroes? Daredevil has three seasons for you. The Marvel series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock—aka Daredevil—a lawyer by day and crime-fighter by night. Co-stars include Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo
The Korean series Extraordinary Attorney Woo follows Woo Young-Woo (Park Eun-bin), a newly hired lawyer at a large law firm. She had difficulty getting hired by a firm and is initially ostracized by her co-workers, but her skill as an attorney is clear as she takes on cases.
Criminal defense lawyer Perry Mason has existed since he was created by writer Erle Stanley Gardner in the 1930s. Since then, he's appeared in numerous books, TV series, and movies. The latest is HBO's Perry Mason, which premiered in 2020. This time around, Matthew Rhys stars as the character, who is working as a private investigator in the early '30s prior to becoming the well-known attorney.
The series All Rise is centered around Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick), a district attorney-turned-judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The drama comes from the way Lola's life intertwines with other employees at the courthouse, including lawyers, bailiffs, reporters, and other judges.
The Good Wife
Julianna Margulies stars in The Good Wife as Alicia Florrick, a woman who returns to working in law after her politician husband (Chris Noth) is imprisoned following a scandal. During the show's seven seasons, Alicia moves up the ladder at her law firm and makes a name for herself outside of her husband's shadow.
The Good Fight
The Good Fight is a spinoff series of The Good Wife, which focuses on Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo's characters from the original show working at a different law firm. Co-stars include Rose Leslie, Audra McDonald, and Delroy Lindo.
Law & Order
If you're looking for lawyer shows, one of the various Law & Order series will probably satisfy you. Sure, there's a focus on the detectives, but lawyers are very much involved, too. There are a lot of options—and countless seasons—to choose from, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and just plain old Law & Order.
