12 'It' Items Everyone Will Be Wearing at New York Fashion Week Spring 2024

New York Fashion Week kicks off the biannual fashion marathon on Sept. 8. And while much attention will be on the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris over the next four weeks, we're making predictions about what people are going to wear to the shows. Because let's be honest: Some of the most exciting fashion happens outside of the venues.

Copenhagen Fashion Week attendees offered us a glimpse into the biggest street-style trends of the year earlier this summer. We're anticipating the return of some "it" items showcased on the Danish streets during New York Fashion Week, as well as other soon-to-be must-haves, from vintage Cartier watches and Loewe cat-eye sunglasses to Sandy Liang-inspired bows and many, many ballet flats.

Bottega Veneta drop earrings

Chunky earrings are having a moment — especially these Bottega Veneta Drop Earrings, which have graced the ears of the Jenner sisters, Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa. They make a strong statement, with their round, sculptural shape and striking 18k-gold finish. Get ready to see a lot more of them over the course of fashion month.

Loewe inflated cat-eye sunglasses

These inflated cat-eye sunglasses by Loewe offer a bold pop of color and whimsical touch to any outfit (and much-needed protection from the sun). It's hard to miss the puffy proportions on the street, so we imagine those who wish to be photographed will reach for statement-making frames like these.

Ballet flats

Put your heels away: Ballet flats are the stylish and comfortable footwear choice this New York Fashion Week, with brands like Miu Miu, Sandy Liang, Khaite, Alaïa, Tory Burch, Maison Margiela, Jil Sander and The Row resurrecting the silhouette and making it feel current. Long, low-rise skirts

Fashion's done a 180º on skirts: The low-rise mini that dominated last year's Y2K silhouettes has been swapped for long, low-rise bottoms that take us back to the '90s. (Because whether you cheer or shudder at its return, low-rise isn't going anywhere.)

Melissa x Telfar bags

Telfar bags are a must for any week, but we're expecting to see its latest collaboration with Melissa take over the city. The new novelty bag is a stand-out, the jelly material making it feel like a grown-up Polly Pocket accessory. If you didn't get your hands on this collab in time, don't fret — a restock is coming soon.

Sports jerseys

New York Fashion Week already feels like a professional sport, so why not dress like it? On the heels of the Women's World Cup, don't be surprised when you see sports jerseys — especially those that have been designer-ified, like this one by Martine Rose — pop up among the front row.  Let the (fashion) games begin!

Capri pants

This totally 2000s pant is back — and it might be the perfect transitional item to move from summer to fall. The capris revival is sleeker than ever, though: Just thank Jacquemus for this nearly $900 pair.

Sandy Liang-inspired hair accessories

It was the summer of Sandy Liang, with her sold-out Baggu collaboration and incredibly chic wedding. So don't be surprised to see accessorized hairstyles inspired by the designer, incorporating bows, hair pins and headbands in feminine pink and ivory hues.

Fashion sneakers

Whether you're running to catch the subway or browsing a pop-up shop, everyone loves (and needs) a good sneaker for trekking the streets of New York Fashion Week. And there are plenty of options with fashion bona fides, from the Asics x Cecilie Bahnsen GT-2160s to the Adidas x Sporty & Rich Sambas.

A cool (preferably vintage) watch

As quiet luxury's not-so-quiet accessory, watches — more specifically, vintage ones — are sure to adorn many wrists this fashion month, whether from beloved brands like Cartier or up-and-comers like Breda. Sure, they're timeless pieces, but they also make sure you're not running late to the next event.

Suiting-inspired vests

Suit vests can be styled as standalone tops, underneath blazers or over blouses. No matter how you choose to wear them, they add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

Crochet

We've got our eyes on Diotima's embellished crochet creations and Nia Thomas' beach-ready knits — and it seems street-style stars do, too. The slight autumn chill in the air won't stop crochet lovers from donning the hand-crafted designs.
