Welcome to the 12 Days of Thirstmas: an extensive examination of all things thirst-worthy in the world of entertainment. Forget parched-ness in a pear tree, if you've been good this year (and especially if you've been naughty), treat yourself to a wide variety of dudes who don't just look good in photos, but in GIFs, too.

On the sixth day of Thirstmas:

Consider the case of Dev Patel. Currently rocking luxurious locks, impossibly perfect dev-il may care facial hair, and rapidly expanding his body... of work, Dev Patel is one of the strongest arguments for establishing a national holiday to celebrate the Glow-up.

Dev Patel would like you to know that he is a grown-ass man so please adjust your thirst accordingly.

But the question on everyone's minds is this: Is Dev Patel the patron saint of Glowing Up right or has he been a mission of stealth thirst all along? We must not rest until we get answers. This is my version of Serial, but instead of researching a cold case or asking big questions about the human experience, I'm looking at hundreds of pictures of Dev Patel at various ages and screaming "Glow! No glow!"

Most of us got to know Dev Patel as a gawky, endearing teen in the UK Skins or Slumdog Millionaire.

Who couldn't help but be charmed by his puppy-dog affection for co-star Frida Pinto or his plucky enthusiasm for, well, everything?

Dev Patel was like your best friend's slightly younger brother. He was always around and then, suddenly, he was there.

But when did it happen?

Somehow this:

Because this:

I consider myself the Indiana Jones of the Glow-up; I have done an extensive investigation and I have found the exact date that Dev Patel first shewk the Thirst Richter Scale: January 20, 2015.

Here's Dev Patel on November 4, 2014. 24 years old, whisper of facial hair, pewter suit jacket, smile. Giving you "your best friend's younger brother back from his first year at grad school."

And here's him two months later on January 20, 2015:

BAM!

Beard! Lucious locks! Random James Marsden appearance!

Plus a cranberry three-quarter-length coat!

All of this in just over two months! The Glow Up is real and it's spectacular. The new year hit Dev Patel and suddenly he was giving us Aud Lange Swoon.

After that, Dev Patel was off to the races.

Here he is later that same day.

Here's Dev Patel in February, with a familiar item of clothing.

Look, when you've got a good thing going, you keep going with it.

The following year, on the press tour for Lion, Dev Patel's hair gets wilder as the thirst goes up to an 11.

And finally, we arrive here:

Glow up complete. Thirst activated. #blessed.

Same, Nicole Kidman.

Extremely same.

The tour for Lion is when we finally got to see Dev Patel in full force and we were not ready. With his wild mane and his sharp suits, Dev Patel was living that easy breezy beautiful glow-up and it left us all shewk.

Let this be a lesson. You should not sleep on Dev Patel! He is a grown man. He is a serious actor. He was raised by Nicole Kidman’s many wigs.

Dev Patel wants you to know that he's not your best friend's little brother anymore. He's got his own place, he's got an adventurous hair stylist, he's really into tailoring suits, and he just came by to say hi and to see what you were doing later and if you wanted to hang out.

Yeah, you definitely want to hang out.
