What did you first notice?
This space was most formerly Torch, a dark nightclub, and Betsy Berry of B. Berry Interiors has transformed it into a light and elegant space that suggests a stylish European spot. One of the most striking elements of the space is the barrel ceiling, gilded in an uneven pattern and creating a soft glow that makes for great selfie light. The marble-topped bar extends down the length of the room, and a hidden gem of a courtyard/patio at the back in black and white is classic-movie set beautiful.

So who’s there?
The crowd is just as stylish as the space, the well-heeled young professional set that knows about wine and is interested in unusual varietals and descriptors beyond "hints of fresh melon."

What are the drinks like?
Everything centers around wine here, from wine-based cocktails (Lillet and Ginger, for example) to wine flights, by the glass, and by the bottle. There's even a glass for $10 called "The Blind." If you guess its contents, it's free.

Worth ordering something to eat, too?
There is a serious cheese and charcuterie selection where you can craft your own plate, and beyond that, a couple of fondue selections and a small list of small plates, including a manchego flatbread that is surprisingly filling. If you are lactose-intolerant, there are options, including oysters and beet salad, but you're liable to be jealous of the amount of frommage on other people's plates.

Did the staff do you right?
The bar staff are serious wine lovers formerly of Bin 152 and 167 Raw, so the list, and the staff training, is very solid here. That being said, when it gets busy, as it is often, the best seat in the house is at the bar itself. Since there's lots of room here to spread out, it's easy to bring a big group to gather at a table, and that can gum up the service bar a bit if the rest of the place is hopping.
