We tested five of the top-rated models on Amazon and thoroughly vetted the ones we didn't try ourselves, paying special attention to PureWow reader favorites that consistently get rave reviews (nothing under 4 stars, of course!). 1. Bissell Little Green Cleaner
If spills and stains happen in your home due to pets, kids or life in general, you’ll love the multi-tasking skills of this little carpet and upholstery cleaner. This machine pulls double duty with its included spot and stain spray (with the fresh scent of Febreze!) that treats messes while suctioning, meaning both recent spills and set-in stains will be vaporized. There's also a sizeable 48-ounce tank, so you’ll be able to clean the entire car without needing to dump it out. We tried it on a brand-new sangria spill and found it did most of the heavy lifting to get our carpet back to a "passable" condition (though we do recommend a more heavy-duty cleaner for tougher messes). It also revamped our old couch, making it look about five years younger. We're not the only ones who love it, either: It has nearly 50,000 5-star reviews.
2. Tineco Pure One S11 Vacuum
Between its LED head, which helps you see dirt far more efficiently than your naked eye ever could, and its smart sensor technology, which reportedly detects hidden dust and debris and adjusts its suction power accordingly to grab every last speck, this stick vacuum is a homeowner's dream. Commerce Director Nicole Briese has the comparable Tineco Powerhero 11 ($160), which operates extremely similarly, albeit with a few slight disadvantages to the Pure One S11 model seen here. Namely, the cheaper Powerhero 11 is missing the aforementioned suction adjustment and Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to monitor your battery usage and maintenance status.
The S11 also boasts a reported 40-minute run time (Briese confirms the battery on the Powerhero 11 also lasts an impressively long while—it hasn't died on her yet), is cordless and highly maneuverable—it even transforms into a handheld vacuum with just a few clicks. The HEPA filter captures allergens while cleaning, too, so you’ll know your home is not only clean, but free of pesky irritants. Briese's only complaint with the Powerhero 11 was that when it's powered off, a bit of the dirt you just sucked up tends to fall out—a note we've also seen in reviews for the Pure One S11. Still, all in all, we think it's a minor annoyance, making this a great overall buy.
3. Dyson Omni-Glide Vacuum
If your goal while vacuuming is to get as much done as possible as quickly as you can (whose isn’t?) then this powerful-yet-lightweight vac is a solid pick. With roughly 20 of run time on a single charge and an ultra-powerful suction, you’ll be able to cover significant ground in a short amount of time. In our review, we found both the regular and max cleaning modes to be highly effective, and it truly lived up to its name, gliding across our hardwood floors and under our furniture with ease. We also liked the freedom of movement it offered when we detached the top from the stick with one click to transform it into a handheld vacuum. (You better believe we used it to suck cracker remnants up from our car.)
4. iRobot Roomba j7+
When offered the choice between spending hours hand-vacuuming all the nooks and crannies in our home and pushing a button to let a machine do the work, we know which option we’re more likely to choose—especially if it can empty itself, too. Allow us to introduce you to the iRobot Roomba j7+—a high-tech model that will not only do all of the above, it will do it with finesse. When we tested it, this baby cleaned thoroughly and efficiently, thanks to its edge-sweeping brush, which moved dirt away from the wall before suctioning it up. We also found the smart mapping job it did of our apartment to be quite accurate, as it rarely bumped into walls or doors. And when it's done, it will return to its dock, where it empties what it picked up into an enclosed bag. Genius!

From sandy beach trips to muddy commutes, the insides of our cars regularly take a beating. With this little vacuum, however, which our senior director of special projects and royals, Rachel Bowie, called "one of the most satisfying cleaning tools" she's ever owned, it will be a non-issue. Its ultra-lightweight build and cordless design, which gives you roughly 13 minutes of run time in our experience, means you can quickly remove dirt and debris before they become permanent residents in your cars’ upholstery—even on-the-go. We especially liked the included two-in-one crevie tool, which allowed us to really get into those hard-to-reach spots, like cup holders and seat pockets. The filter is washable, so you’ll get multiple uses out of it before having to swap out for a new one. It's not quite enough to replace your household vacuum, but you’ll be covered for the average car mess and radiator dusting with this tool.
6. Miele C1 Turbo Vacuum
Canister vacuums aren’t everyone’s first choice when looking for an everyday household machine, but after trying this model, we promise you’ll be sold. It's relatively compact for its type, but is one of the most impressive machines on our list, with 1,200 watts of pure power. There are six suction settings that’ll allow you to customize your clean as you move through your home, and the three-tiered filtration system will clean the air in the room as well as your floors. Amazon’s choice (and ours) for the best upright vacuum has close to 26,000 5-star reviews for good reason. Not only can you use it normally to deep-clean floors and carpets, its Lift-Away technology means you'll be able to detach the cleaning pod and nozzle to turn it into a smaller handheld when you need to clean hard-to-reach areas, like window sills and countertops. And while some powerful vacuums tend to kick up dust and allergens, this one's washable HEPA filter is designed to traps them, so you won’t get the sniffles while you work. A twist of the suction ring on the nozzle also allows for customization on high-pile rugs. Other niceties include a large dust canister, so you can vacuum multiple rooms at one go, and multiple attachments, which makes for easier pet hair pickup.
9. Dyson Ball MF Vacuum
Sure, we equate “Dyson” with a great blowout thanks to the brand's legendary Supersonic hair dryer, but let’s not forget that the Dyson name was first synonymous with the vacuum thanks to its signature ball technology. It's what makes pushing this powerful (270 watt) and heavy (17.3 pound) machine feel "like gliding” according to reviewers, since it can easily pass over carpet, hardwood and tiled floors. It’s just what you’ll need if you’re working through multiple rooms covered in thick carpeting. It is a corded vacuum, but the multiple attachments and long hose/wand mean you'll have plenty of room to move and clean without constantly pulling it behind you as you go.

We love our furry friends, but that fuzzy fur is a little less lovable.
