This $12.7 Million Organic-Contemporary Home Offers Leafy Tranquility in the Middle of Mexico City
With more than 20 million residents, Mexico City is one of the world’s largest and most vibrant capitals. Historically rich, a hub for politics and finance, and a cultural powerhouse, the city is a densely populated cacophony of blaring traffic, constant construction, and vibrant street life.
However, about 6 miles (but roughly an hour by car!) in the low hills east of the Zócalo and bordering the 1,700-acre Bosque de Chapultepec, the wealthy Lomas de Chapultepec colony offers a leafy residential respite from all the urban hubbub. Those who have made their home in the hilly enclave, which is often referred to as just Las Lomas, include the 11thrichest man in the world, Carlos Slim Helú; the ex-wife of former president of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto, actress Angélica Rivera; and the legendary actor, comedian, acrobat, and mime Mario Moreno Reyes, better known across Latin America and Spain as Cantinflas.

Sequestered along an exclusive gated street in Los Lomas, a capacious contemporary residence enveloped in privacy and greenery offers an urban oasis for $12.7 million. The property is available through Sotheby’s International Realty.
The nearly 19,000-square-foot mansion, completed in 2017 and referred to as AA315, was conceptualized by the vaunted architecture firm Bernardi + Peschard. The sumptuous interiors, which offer organic shapes and tactile fabrics, were handled by designer Gloria Cortina, while world-renowned carpenter Simón Hamui is responsible for the bespoke Swiss Larch and Macassar Ebony carpentry found throughout the home.
At the intersection of the three-story L-shaped home, a sculptural staircase serves as the home’s central traffic hub as well as an artful separation between the public rooms on the main floor and the private family spaces on the upper floor.
On the main floor, glass curtain walls allow most of the sumptuous interior spaces to interact freely with the lush gardens. At one end of the home, the massive living room showcases sliding walls of floor-to-ceiling glass as well as Macassar Ebony built-ins, and at the other end, walls of glass slide open to merge the games room with a loggia tucked under a deep, cantilevered overhang alongside the zero-edge swimming pool and spa.
There are, however, several rooms with distinct uses that are contained within interior volumes. They include the dining room, which is in perfect alignment with the swimming pool; the kitchen, which is sleek with designer fittings and a walk-in pantry; and a media lounge.
The home contains four spacious family bedrooms served by four full bathrooms, all of which are on the upper floor. There’s also a main-floor powder room, a pool bath, and extensive staff quarters.
Each of the family bedrooms is exceptionally spacious, with a lavish ensuite bathroom and lots of closet space. The bedrooms are separated for maximum privacy, with the main bedroom presiding over a wing of its own. The main bedroom offers a slender private balcony, a huge, boutique-style dressing room, and a bathroom that includes an oversized and skylight-capped shower lined with giant slabs of book-matched golden marble. Centrally situated amid the bedrooms, a family room with hand-crafted built-ins functions as a convivial gathering spot.
Along with a garage capable of holding a dozen cars, the subterranean lower level includes a chauffeur’s lounge with living and dining areas and four double sleeping chambers with their own bath.
The rigid linearity and dynamic transparency of the house are countered by the lush backyard, which includes a sweep of lawn backed by fluttering clouds of mature trees and dense vegetation that blots out neighboring homes.
Among the home’s creature comforts and high-tech features are a five-person elevator, a wine cave, and a home automation system that controls everything, down to the automated window coverings. There’s also a hydronic heating system and photovoltaic solar power panels, and the entire property is fortified by a security system that incorporates CCTV cameras and biometric technology.
