Every December, Miami transforms into the art capital of the world as global collectors and design connoisseurs descend onto the sunny South Florida city. Miami Art Week plays host to over 20 art fairs, over 1,200 gallery shows and thousands of acclaimed and up-and-coming artists.

Miami Art Week is renowned for its array of stunning exhibitions and shows, and this year promises to be no different. Among the standout events are the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach and the innovative Design Miami. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Miami from December 6-10, 2023, Design Miami presents an unparalleled selection of historic and contemporary furniture, lighting, and objets d'art from the most acclaimed of brands, creatives, and galleries from around the globe.

Concurrently, from December 8-10, 2023, the art world sets its eyes on Art Basel Miami Beach, a flagship fair that pulls together an extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary artworks from esteemed artists.

Below, discover the artists and exhibitions we're most looking forward to this Miami Art Week.

Design Miami

Ateliers Courbet

Ateliers Courbet will present "Primal Nature," a group exhibition showcasing works from 11 artists, each drawing inspiration from natural forms and biomorphic motifs. Featured among the artists is Veronica Mar, who will debut her collection of chandeliers influenced by the ginkgo tree. Additionally, Mexican multidisciplinary artist Héctor Esrawe is set to make his Design Miami debut with a series of sculptural lights and tables inspired by the geometric patterns of honeycomb cells.

Bea Interiors Design

Miami-based interior designer Bea Pernia will showcase a line of handmade, limited-edition furnishings that embody both luxury and comfort. The one-of-a-kind pieces include a DJ booth, credenza, chairs, poufs, and sculptural lighting.

Maison Gerard

New York-based Maison Gerard will spotlight female contemporary designers from eight different countries, each pushing the boundary of her respective discipline. Artists featured include Aline Hazarian, Ani Afshar, Ayala Serfaty, Carol Egan, Emma Donnersberg, Federica Silvi, Jean-Luc Le Mounier, Laura Kirar, Niamh Barry and Sandra Nunnerley.

Maestro Dobel Artpothecary

The fair's official tequila sponsor will present their third annual Maestro Dobel Tequila’s Artpothecary entitled, “Oaxaca: A Lens on Tradition and Innovation." Oaxacan-based artists Marissa Naval of NAVAL Arquitectura and Javier Reyes of rrres Studio will create a lounge for guests to visit and learn about Oaxacan art, craft, and culture.

SCAD

As the fair's official university partner, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) will showcase designs by six distinguished alumni from its top-tier jewelry program. The exhibition will display both grandiose designs and avant-garde wearable pieces created by talented artists Shuoyuan Bai, Seth Carlson, Xinia Guan, Miao He, Xun Liu, Paola Maldonado and Andrea Ortiz. In addition, SCAD will host a panel featuring esteemed lifestyle designer Kelly Wearstler, who will share insights into her design philosophy and discuss her latest book, Synchronicity.

Twenty First Gallery

New York-based Twenty First Gallery puts a spotlight on European artisans who blend traditional craftsmanship with modern living. The gallery will display collectible works from Emmanuel Babled, Mattia Bonetti, Erwan Boulloud, Giuseppe Ducrot, Alice Gavalet, Hubert Le Gall, Roland Mellan, Emmée Parizot, Marcin Rusak, François Salem, and Nathalie Ziegler.

Wexler Gallery

Wexler Gallery’s Design Miami exhibition celebrates the rich connections between the artist, their craft and their respective homelands with works from Malene Djenaba Barnett, Jomo Tariku, Feyza Kemahlioglu and Andreea Avram Rusu. Most notably, Barnett will be making her Wexler debut with a terracotta tile installation called “Memories of Home."

Art Basel

Hew Locke

Guyanese-British artist Hew Locke, renowned for his contemporary sculptures that examine the visual symbols of authority, will have pieces from his series, "Gilt," showcased at the Almine Rech booth. This series draws inspiration from artifacts within The Met's collection, casting them in a new light.

Ja'Tovia Gary

Ja'Tovia Gary's work, represented by Paula Cooper Gallery, is celebrated for its powerful celebration of Black feminism and womanhood through film and sculpture. Her thought-provoking pieces will be featured in the Meridians section of the fair.

Kay WalkingStick

Cherokee artist Kay WalkingStick will debut a curated collection of new works exploring the Native American experience at the Hales Gallery booth. She's most known for her interpretations of the American landscape and its relation to Native American people.

Leonor Fini

Paris's Galerie Minsky and San Francisco's Weinstein Gallery will jointly curate a booth showcasing never-before-seen works from the late Leonor Fini, the Argentine-Italian Surrealist artist. Fini, one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, is recognized for her exploration of female sexuality, desire, and agency in her work.
