This $105 Million Aspen Compound Could Become Colorado’s Most Expensive Home

When it comes to ski town real estate, it’s hard to compete with Aspen’s extravagant offerings.

In recent years, the wealthy Colorado enclave has seen homes sell for as much as $72.5 million, but one newly listed property is hoping to break that record. A roughly eight-and-a-half-acre compound on the Roaring Fork River has just hit the market, and it’s listed for an eye-watering $105 million, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

The sprawling Rocky Mountain spread is being offered up by a company linked to car dealership tycoon Terry Taylor, which acquired the property in 2020 for $32 million. Taylor is known for making a number of pricey real estate transactions in recent years. Earlier this year, he dropped a cool $18 million on a Palm Beach penthouse that’s perched atop the Tiffany & Co. building, and in 2019, he snapped up Tommy Hilfiger’s former apartment at New York’s Plaza Hotel for $31.2 million.

The Aspen compound could become the ski town’s priciest home.

The lavish compound comprises two parcels separated by the serpentine Roaring Fork River. The main house is situated on one side, while a guest residence and a caretaker’s house sit on the other, with the two halves connected by a private footbridge. Altogether, the massive estate has eight bedrooms across 18,400 square feet of living space.

The two-story main abode, built around 2014, was extensively renovated by the seller. “It was kind of Old World, with dark, heavy materials. He came in and lightened the whole thing up,” Mandy Welgos of Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Realty told the WSJ. Welgos holds the listing with colleague, Craig Morris.

The property includes a main mansion that offers river and mountain views, plus a guest residence and caretaker’s house.

Inside the main house, the grand circular foyer is decked out with a sweeping staircase, stately oak paneling, and a fireplace; the double-height living room features walls of glass and a back-lit onyx bar; and the ornate formal dining room has built-in lighted wine-display cabinets. Elsewhere are four bedroom suites, a movie theater, an office, a personal gym, a kitchen equipped for a private chef, and a butler’s pantry with a walk-in wine room. Throughout are all kinds of uber-fancy trimmings and stone accents that include blue Bahia granite, onyx, and white marble.

If the entire spread is more than what you’re looking to add to your portfolio, the two parcels are available separately. The one with the main house clocks in at $72 million, while the rest of the compound, which includes the guest dwelling and caretaker’s house, can be yours for $33 million.
