It's the holiday shopping season, whether you're ready or not. With shopping starting earlier and earlier each year according to the National Retail Federation, consumers are searching harder than ever to snag deals on gifts.

Holiday spending is expected to reach new heights this year with the National Retail Federation forecasting upward of $966.6 billion to be spent by shoppers nationwide.

“It is not surprising to see holiday sales growth returning to pre-pandemic levels,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a press call Nov. 2. “Overall household finances remain in good shape and will continue to support the consumer’s ability to spend.”

Between the classic Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal grabs shoppers can turn to Small Business Saturday to find deals while also supporting local businesses. This year, Small Business Saturday, a nationwide holiday encouraging people to shop small and support local businesses, falls on Nov. 25.

This Small Business Saturday marks the 14th celebration of the holiday which was started in 2010 by American Express in an effort to help redirect consumer's dollars to local businesses. In 2011, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution declaring Small Business Saturday a nationally recognized day.

In Louisville, small businesses account for roughly two-thirds of the city's workforce, according to a Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government website.

"Small businesses also provide most of the necessary services in neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for those residents," the website stated.

With people spending more on goods, here's where you can shop locally on Small Business Saturday and during the holiday shopping season in Louisville.
