The question is often asked: If you could invite anyone, living or dead, to dinner, who would it be? We choose the living. There’s an art to putting together a party, whether it’s a meal for 12 or a blowout for 400, and a good deal of it has to do with curating the invite list. Too many big personalities, and your dinner table will start to feel like the set of The McLaughlin Group; too many introverts, and the conversation could grind to a halt entirely.

What we’re all aiming for is the perfect mix: grit and glamour, brains and bawdiness—and, of course, town and country. This September we’ve pulled together a roster of the year’s most dazzling possible guests—from a gorgeous British aristocrat to an opinionated newspaper columnist, the rising stars of the year on stage and screen, and an outspoken rebel heiress—any of whom would be an invaluable addition to your guest list.

The all-stars of international dinner parties are here as well—not to mention a group of the year’s most challenging invitees—and we’ve gone around the globe to plan the perfect seating for an unforgettable power dinner, or the perfect fashion week front row. You might call it Town & Country’s perfect guest list; the only question left is whether you’re on it.

THE ROSTER

DINNER PARTY MAGIC

The ingenue with Oscar buzz. The reclusive celebrity chef. The power gallerist. The world's most interesting ex-wife. These are the people we want to be seated next to, the people who provide the stories we'll dine out on for weeks, those who will pitch us and we'll pitch back. Who are this year's most coveted guests? We've mapped our tables (round ones are the best) for three cities and filled them with some of the most charming and fascinating characters in each–a mix of familiar faces and exciting newcomers–to make up the world's greatest dinner tables. Pull up a seat and get ready for what may be the most memorable meal of your life.

THE IDEAL FRONT ROW

Fashion can be as much about who’s sitting alongside the runway as what’s coming down it. At fashion weeks around the world, how seats are filled can be a reliable representation of not only how a brand sees itself but of which individuals are currently dominating popular culture and international conversation. So if we were planning one of the season’s hottest shows, this is exactly who we’d have in mind, from Hollywood royalty to royalty royalty—with a wildcard or two to keep things interesting. Just like designing a collection, curating a front row is all about finding the perfect mix.
