The 100 Best Party Hosts in America
It's time to raise a glass to the top party hosts in the country-the Salonniere, a publication dedicated to the art of entertaining, has released their annual "100" list, highlighting the men and women who throw the best events of the year.
The Salonniere 100 is our way of honoring those who are dedicated to advancing the tradition of using parties to connect people, foster ideas, and promote joy," explained Carla McDonald, the Salonniere's founder and editor in chief, in the announcement.
"Whether known for hosting casual dinner parties or black-tie fundraisers, the men and women on the Salonniere 100 deserve recognition," she said. "They invest tremendous time, thought, energy, and money to bring joy and opportunities to others. One can't overestimate the value of their efforts to our communities."
The list was compiled by asking national and local society reporters, as well as "cultural figures" and leaders in the arts, business, and non-profit worlds for their nominations. The names most frequently mentioned were then reviewed by a board of "social experts" and members of the publication's editorial team.
The Salonniere 100 is divided by locale, and perhaps unsurprisingly, New York City dominates the list with 14 hosts from the metropolitan area.
This year's Big Apple contingent includes the likes of fashion designer Lela Rose, Darcy Miller, Athena Calderone, T&C contributing editor Anne Hearst McInerney and Jay McInerney, and T&C etiquette columnist Susan Fales-Hill, among others.
Southern Charm's Patricia Altschul made the list for Charleston, South Carolina; interior designer Nate Berkus was one of eight recognized from L.A.; Santa Barbara, California boasted only one hostess, but hers is a name you might recognize: Oprah Winfrey.
And while 34 of this year's honorees also appeared on last year's ranking, two names are were curiously missing from the repeat list: Barack and Michelle Obama.
