After 10 Years Without One, The Iconic Skatepark of Tampa is Getting A Vert Ramp Again
The vert ramp at Skatepark of Tampa was a staple in the early days. From the stories of individuals who lived under it to the progression that happened on it during each session, it's hard to argue that it's felt like something has been missing in the halls of SPoT the last decade or so.
"We have partnered w/ @longevityconcrete & legendary builder Mike Kruse on the installation of the concrete footers and we couldn’t be happier with the progress so far," wrote SPoT on Instagram. "Thank you to the build crew, @monsterenergy & @skatelite for making this project a reality."
The original SPoT vert ramp hosted many iconic moments and contributed heavily to skate culture at the time. It was a major factor in the growth of skateboarding in that era, without a doubt. Plus, Skatepark of Tampa is a legendary place for skateboarding in its own right, but the resurgence of the ramp and all the contests, content and community building that will follow just makes sense.
They have a Vert Legends Jam scheduled for Friday, October 13th (during Tampa Am Weekend)—the first of many. Exciting news. Vert is alive and well in 2023. Let's get Jimmy Wilkins on that thing ASAP!
