12 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, May 27-June 2
The Coachella Valley is home to a number of events and activities to enjoy — even now that season is over. If you're interested in filling your calendar, we've put together a list of 12 things happening this week in the valley and nearby communities.

Revolution Stage Company presents 'Baby the Musical'
Revolution Stage Company's latest production, directed by multi Desert Theatre League award-winning director Rebecca McWilliams, "examines how parents-to-be experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, as well as the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby," as its website says. Follow three parents of varying ages on a one-of-a-kind musical journey documenting all the conflicting feelings that come with bringing (or trying to and facing difficulties bringing) a new life into the world.

Movies in the Park: 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure'
The Palm Springs Cultural Center's Movies in the Park series continues with a lineup of classics from the '80s and '90s. The free movies begin at sundown in the new Downtown Park, across from the Palm Springs Art Museum. Moveigoers are encouraged to dine early downtown or pick up takeout and picnic in the park. This week's movie is comedy "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."
When: 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28

Comedian Shane Mauss presents 'A Better Trip'
Comedian and science podcaster Shane Mauss has performed stand-up on "CONAN" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and also has mulitple Comedy Central specials. Known for his uncanny description of psychedelic experiences, Mauss' Comedy Central “Tales From The Trip” videos have millions of views, and his last sold-out tour inspired the documentary film “Psychonautics: A Comic’s Exploration of Psychedelics” on Amazon. In his new show, “A Better Trip,” the comic aims to combine his headliner experience with his science communication experience for a laugh-out-loud stand-up experience (featuring live visuals by VJ Michael Strauss).

Palm Desert Certified Farmers Market
Browse locally (or regionally) grown, raised or made produce, meats, baked goods, sauces and unique artisan goods at this weekly farmers market through the end of May. You can also shop for other goods such as handcrafted jewelry and natural health products in a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Laughing Bones present 'CarpenDiem'
Looking for a mid-week pickup? Lift your spirits at this one-night-only comedy event. Expect an evening of sketches inspired by the titles of songs by The Carpenters.

Palm Springs VillageFest
Every Thursday night, Palm Canyon Drive is closed to cars so pedestrians can browse the plethora of vendors that take over the space for VillageFest. The mix of merchants include flowers, food, art and jewelry for patrons to shop, as well as live entertainment (most recently, a poetry writer who will write you something on the spot) to enjoy. Bonus: While you're downtown for VillageFest, head to the Palm Springs Art Museum for free admission from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

Palm Desert Concerts in the Park
Head to Civic Center Park in Palm Desert this Thursday for the city's final free Concerts in the Park event of the season. The musical fun continues at the amphitheater with Country Nation, a group that pays tribute to the biggest stars of modern country music while also honoring the timeless legends. Audience participation is highly encouraged, so pull those cowboy boots and other Westernwear out of the closet and come prepared for some line dancing.

Friday Nights on Pierson
The Friday Nights on Pierson event series in Desert Hot Springs returned in November, and continues throughout May. Peruse a variety of food trucks — from tacos to pulled pork sandwiches — as well as pop-up shops, live music offerings and crafts for purchase by local artisans.

Greater Palm Springs Restaurant Week
Residents and visitors alike can savor 10 days of special deals at restaurants around Palm Springs and surrounding communities May 31-June 9. Kick off summer with deals on chilled cocktails, dinners with a view and more uniquely desert dining experiences. One dollar from every reservation booked through the event's website will be donated to FIND Food Bank.

Princess presents '@1minworld'
Princess, the interdisciplinary performing arts duo comprised of Alexis Gideon and Michael O’Neill, will bring their experimental Instagram video opera cycle, "@1minworld (One Minute World)" to Palm Springs this week. The work explores "the discontents of our social media age" and features original animations and live musical performance alongside video projection. Expect a mix of primary-colored bubblegum visuals and longer, slower pieces of music and film.

The Street Fair at College of the Desert
Come celebrate 40 years of this weekly event on the College of the Desert main campus. The Street Fair is where locals and visitors alike can spend their day browsing vendors in an open-air, shaded shopping space. With merchandise and services for customers of all walks of life, the Street Fair offers everything from art and home goods to a farmer’s market with live entertainment.
