10 Mother’s Day Gifts Under $500 for the Stylish Mom

So what do you get your mother for Mother’s Day? Exactly what she wants, of course. But how do you know exactly what she wants without asking her?
We decided just to ask Lizzie Fortunato, cofounder and codesigner at Lizzy Fortunato Jewelry. Fortunato and her twin sister, Kathryn, craft pieces with stunning silhouettes and standout semiprecious stones that each tell a story. Their vibrant designs are luxury heirlooms.
“We have a very intentional production approach, We are very conservative about not overproducing and championing our vendors both in NYC and abroad,” Fortunato tells Bazaar. “By creating pieces with a strong narrative and intention, we hope—and think—we’re making more than just a piece of fashion jewelry, a piece that can be worn and shared among generations.”
When it comes to shopping for Mom, she approaches it with a similar strategy of good intentions and thoughtful design. “Shopping for my mom is so fun,” Fortunato says, “partly because we have similar aesthetics and because she appreciates well-designed, special pieces just as much as I do.” Her favorite way to treat her mom is to gift her with a basket or a chic designer tote bag filled with pretty little luxuries. Think of it like one would an Easter basket—but far more chic.
Ahead, 10 items we’re sure any mom would love.
Bilbao Collar
This necklace features recycled bone beads interspersed with gold, amethyst, and iolite beads. At its focal point is a single baroque freshwater pearl. "I can’t wait to wear the Bilbao Collar," Fortunato says. "This cornflower blue color makes me happy and will be perfect for spring/summer with a crisp white button-down."
Camilo Stud Earrings
To go with Fortunato's favorite necklace, these Camilo Studs take the stress out of indecisive days. Framed in gold-plated brass, the enamel periwinkle blooms sport little semiprecious lemon quartz center stones.
"While I am normally not so matchy-matchy, I adore the coordinating Camilo Studs in Periwinkle, so have to mention those as a runner-up favorite," she says.
Modern Love Jewelry Box
Of course, moms are going to need a place to put all her new baubles and keepsakes. This hand-embroidered velvet and satin box made in collaboration with Stephanie Fishwick is the perfect modern upgrade.
Valerie Kaftan Fresh Flowers
Most Moms love flowers. But the florals on this gorgeous dress from Carolina K live forever in the form of a crazy-comfortable kaftan with a spread collar and gathered sleeves. We'd say it's definitely better than a bouquet.
Annie Loafers
Show your gratitude with these Rachel Comey Annie Loafers. The square toes offer comfort and the low block heels make for easy all-day wear.
Fabulous Candle
You can never go wrong with a great-smelling candle. And Tom Ford's bougie candle lives up to its name with notes of clary sage, leather, vanilla, Tonka beans, lavender, and blonde woods.
Set of 5 Mini Plates
"I just introduced Mom to La DoubleJ clothing, and she's in love with their gracious silk tops in awesome patterns. She def needs the matching plates!" Fortunato says.
Steal the idea and give your Mom these maximalist porcelain plates —ideally paired with something bright, bold, and silky.
Harmonie Tumblers, Set of 2
Handmade in France, this pair of Harmonie Tumblers is the perfect toasting vessel for a queen. Carved from crystal with vertical details, they're more than just glasses; they're objects of beauty that will last a lifetime.
Marcia Tote
Mom is always carrying around her stuff—just in case. So she could probably use a new shoulder bag upgrade. This woven gem from Bembien is just the fit, but it's actually better than your average tote bag thanks to its zippered top.
Mary Jane Furlane Slippers
Mom can wear these Mary Jane slippers wherever life takes her. Handcrafted in Italy and finished with recycled rubber bottoms, these Venetian beauties are the perfect gift.
