These Are the 10 Most Expensive U.S. Cities for a Weekend Getaway

If you're looking to end your summer or kick off your fall with a weekend getaway, beware of breaking the bank.

A new analysis from travel information site Scott and Yanling reveals the 10 cities where a weekend away will cost the average couple the most money. The site looked at the 50 biggest cities in the United States, and tallied up average costs for hotels, public transport, taxi rides, theatre tickets, cinema tickets, alcoholic beverages, and lunchtime and dinnertime menus.

Although NYC is known for its lavish accommodations and pricey tourist attractions, it surprisingly didn't top the list. Instead, Boston takes the top spot, with an estimated cost of $1,401 for a couple's weekend trip. NYC landed in second place, with an estimated $1,291 cost, while San Diego took third place at $1,231.

Scott Sidders from Scott and Yanling explained how to best approach travel planning to maximize your savings.

"Weekend getaways can save time and add convenience to your trip," he said. "To secure the best possible deals and avoid surging prices during peak periods, meticulous planning in advance is key. Embracing flexibility by choosing different weekdays can also work in your favor, which unlocks more affordable accommodation and entertainment options, ultimately providing an enriching experience without breaking the bank."
