'He's a 10, but...': Internet plays trending TikTok game to describe 'brutal' relationship deal breakers

The latest meme format taking the internet by storm has people revealing what they consider red or green flags in potential romantic partners.

The trend involves people ranking their attraction to an imaginary love interest on a scale of one to 10, but there’s a catch to their behavior that could skyrocket or deplete the initial rating. You may have come across people starting their Tweets or TikToks with the following phrase: “She’s/he’s a 10, but…” — whatever words come after “but” is always the deal breaker personality trait.

The meme began on TikTok in May. On TikTok, the trend usually involves a group of friends using the meme format as a game. After each turn, the players must adjust the imaginary partner’s final ranking on the attractiveness scale based on their deal breaker trait.

The TikTok below was posted by user @kyyahabdul and involved her and a friend ranking figurative male partners.

“He’s a three, but your family loves him,” Kyyah (@kyyahabdul) said.

“Ooh, [he’s an] eight,” her friend replied. “He’s a 10 but doesn’t believe in tipping.”

“I would say he’s a six,” Kyyah replied.

Another TikTok example posted by user @kyliemillar shows her playing the game with her boyfriend.

“He’s an eight out of 10, but he has a picture of himself as his screen saver,” said Kylie’s (@kyliemillar) boyfriend.

“Oh no, that’s f****** brutal. Three out of 10,” Kylie replied. “She’s a nine out of 10, but she runs for the bus and misses it.”

“Six out of 10,” her boyfriend answered.

Another hilarious TikTok posted by user @alescouch shows her playing the game with her little sister but only using her sister’s personality traits as deal breakers for each scenario.

“He’s an eight, but he’s lactose intolerant,” @alescouch said.

“That’s a zero minus!” her sister replied.

“Not her saying -0 to stuff about her,” a TikToker commented.

Outside of TikTok, the trend is also generating lots of viral tweets.
