Is this $10 Grocery Store Serum Slashing The Anti-Aging Beauty Price Tag For Good?

Anti-aging products are notoriously pricey, with some cult favorites ringing in at well above $50. But imagine a world in which you did not have to set aside a portion of your paycheck to fund your skincare regimen. This may sound like a lofty dream, but one grocery store superhero is making it a reality.

We’re not willing to sacrifice our meticulous, well-practiced anti-aging routine, but we shouldn’t have to spend top dollar on basic skincare necessities. And we’re certainly not willing to compromise on quality. Trader Joe’s understands, and it's here to help.

To list all the glories and triumphs that Trader Joe’s brings to our world would be an impossible task. Despite stretching across America with hundreds of stores, the supermarket chain has never wavered in its hometown, small-shop feel and its commitment to offering high-quality private label products. Shopping at this neighborhood grocery store is an immersive experience, complete with free samples and an ever-changing selection of new, creative products.

But the grocery store’s most underrated aisle? The small, yet powerful health & beauty section. Presented among floral-perfumed French soaps, pillowy bath tissue, and a rose water facial toner that feels like a spritz of springtime, you’ll find a curated selection of moisturizers and exfoliants.

One of the great assets of the drugstore is its ability to carry such a wide selection of products, suiting every conceivable need or want you may have. While this breadth is certainly a perk when we’re searching for the perfect eyeliner or foundation shade, the aisles and aisles of colorful packaging and buzz-word promises—"Lengthen! Smooth! Contour!”—can be overwhelming. Trader Joe’s takes a different approach. The grocer typically only offers one private-label version of any given product, so instead of spending an hour debating the merits of serums only really distinguishable by brand and packaging, TJs has made the decision for you. You will get the Nourish Antioxidant Facial Serum. And, probably, you will love it.

I was first introduced to this product by my best friend’s mother (Mama always knows best, especially when it comes to skincare). She told me that she had just run out of her expensive anti-aging serum and, rather than blow another chunk of her paycheck on another miniature bottle, she decided to change it up. She noticed this serum while shopping at her local TJs and decided to try it out. So I decided I’d try it, too.

The Nourish Antioxidant Facial Serum is dermatologist formulated and advertised to suit all skin types. It comes in a generous 30 mL bottle and it’s exclusively sold at Trader Joe’s. Like most rival products, the serum is full of antioxidants, including resveratrol and Vitamin C beads. Trader Joe’s writes that the serum can be used as a make-up primer and will leave your face “feeling velvety-smooth.”

At only $9.99 per bottle, this serum requires little investment. But it may just be the best investment I’ve ever made. The clear, gelatinous serum feels like silk against the skin, and all it takes is one pump to gain total facial coverage (you may need an additional pump for the neck). The serum left my skin feeling light, smooth, and ultra-moisturized. It works best applied after cleansing, then it can be topped with any facial moisturizer of your choosing. Quite frankly, this serum packed such a hydrating punch that I barely needed any moisturizer for my skin to feel fresh and glowy.

Now, the question remains: does it work? Well, I’ll circle back in a few years when my first set of wrinkles crops up (or, hopefully, doesn’t. Start young, ladies). Right now, all I can say is that the serum feels great. And it’s got my best friend’s Mama’s seal of approval.
