No pillow can promise to completely break your snoring habits for good, but the right pillow can play a significant role in reducing or eliminating snoring. The key is to find an anti-snoring pillow that offers comfortable support for your head without compromising the alignment of your neck and spine. Our extensive testing of more than 60 different pillows over the past two years has led us to identify 10 top anti-snoring pillows, including wedge pillows, body pillows encouraging side sleeping, and traditional pillows with the ideal loft and firmness for different sleep preferences.

Contrary to popular belief, snoring is not sleep apnea; but snoring can be a symptom of someone with sleep apnea. To gain a deeper understanding, we sought insights from experts like Geraldo Lorenzi-Filho, Ph.D., director of the Sleep Lab at the Heart Institute, University of São Paulo. According to Lorenzi-Filho, snoring is subjective and dependent on the listener's perception; it's not technically a disease. W. Chris Winter, M.D., a sleep specialist from Charlottesville, Virginia, and author of The Sleep Solution, emphasizes that treating snoring involves a trial-and-error process. Winter notes, "Snoring is nuanced, and the right solution is based on your health and comfort preferences."

The best anti-snoring pillows are a promising home remedy, offering the potential to fix your snoring. A minor adjustment in your pillow choice could lead to a substantial change. The best pillows for snoring provide support for your head without compromising the alignment of your neck and spine, but it's important to recognize that finding the right level of support may involve some trial and error. Each person's needs and preferences vary, so be patient in your quest to alleviate snoring.

Original Loft Pillow

Traditional memory foam “block” pillows aren’t for everyone, which is why we love shredded memory foam pillows. They feel more natural, and more comfortable, and are infinitely adjustable by removing or adding fill to dial in your preferred comfort level. That’s why Coop Home Goods’ Original Loft Pillow is our pick for the best anti-snoring pillow of 2024. The adjustable memory foam fill makes it ideal for all sleep styles, whether side, back, or stomach. The polyester and viscose rayon cover is soft, breathable, and machine-washable (along with the pillow itself).

The feature that puts the Coop Home Goods pillow over the top of the rest of the pack is it comes with an extra half-pound fill bag, so snorers can bulk up, or flatten, their pillow over time to get a positioning that helps align the neck and spine to a point where the body is most comfortable.

Memory Foam Wedge Pillow

For alleviating snoring, there is no better pillow design than a wedge pillow to keep the head elevated. This model from Xtreme Comforts is our pick for the best memory foam wedge pillow. With a seven-inch profile and strong, 30-degree incline, it raises the head higher than traditional bed pillows. The versatile wedge shape can be used in multiple positions for reading in bed or as a leg support. Plus, we love that the soft bamboo cover stays cool, even in the summer. At around $35, it’s also one of the cheapest anti-snore pillows we tested. The downside? Off-gassing makes for a strong, initial chemical smell that can take up to a full week to disappear.

Deep Sleep Pillow

The Cushion Lab's Deep Pillow kills two birds with one, er, pillow. It’s first and foremost a neck-support pillow that’s soft and pressure-free, yet ultra supportive and comfortably contours to the head and neck. Side sleepers can snug closer to the pillow for more comprehensive support, thanks to the curved shape of the top and bottom of the pillow. The unique design has the added benefit of positioning the head naturally to increase oxygen and reduce snoring. The dual-density memory foam fill is plush, yet supportive, and designed to stay cool and comfortable.

In many ways, the Deep Sleep Pillow is a lot like the one we named from Coop Home Goods, except it's made with much higher-quality foam and is designed to be more supportive. You pay about double for the Deep Sleep Pillow, but you get a significant upgrade on the pillow design itself and you get the long-lasting quality we mentioned to help your investment last. If money is no object, this is one great anti-snore pillow to buy.

Kapok Pillow

If wedge pillows aren’t for you, a shredded memory foam pillow is the next best thing. Layla Sleep’s Kapok Pillow is height adjustable by simply removing or adding fill. With a tall max profile of seven inches, it’s ideal for keeping your head and neck elevated in the perfect anti-snore position. The Kapok fibers and a copper-infused cover ensure this one is silky soft and cool all night long. It’s one of the most premium and eco-friendly options on this list.

Unfortunately, this pillow isn't machine-washable (doing so voids the manufacturer’s warranty). You also don't get extra fill, so you can only downsize the pillow. We'd love this pillow more if it came with extra fill bags. But don't get us wrong, the memory foam inside is elite, and it helps keep you locked in place for a blissful snooze.

Hybrid Pillow with Snow Technology

A good cooling pillow that can also potentially help with snoring? Count us in. Casper's Hybrid Pillow has integrated Snow Technology to help keep even the hottest sleepers in check. The pillow is actually pretty wild, as it features an innovative design of airy foam that's strong and supportive. Most would expect this pillow to side too light, but in reality the design makes it on the heavier side—which is great for snorers who are trying to lock themselves in one sleeping position.

What really amazed us when testing this pillow was the cooling cover Casper added. Even through our bamboo pillow case you could actually feel the pillow being cool to the touch even after laying down on it for an extended period of time. The downside about the Hybrid Pillow with Snow Technology is it's on the expensive side. The pillow is also heavy, so if you're used to sleeping with down then you might be surprised it doesn't move as easy as you want it. Nevertheless, this is an exceptional cooling pillow that's worth a try if you're a hot sleeper who wants to work on limiting snoring.

Side-Sleeping Anti-Snore Backpack

If you’re a chronic or extreme snorer, a radical solution might be in order. The WoodyKnows Side-Sleeping Backpack is for those who don’t respond to traditional wedge or other anti-snoring pillows. True to its name, it’s worn like a backpack with straps around the shoulders and waist with a bulky, air-filled compartment on the back. It’s designed for just one thing: Making sure you don’t—or can’t—sleep on your back. Because rolling on your back is almost impossible while wearing it, it’s very good at keeping back sleepers in a more snore-friendly side position. It’s the sort of product that you need to test personally to know whether it will work for you. But, heavy snorers who’ve tried other options shouldn’t mind shelling out less than $70 for the chance.

If you're not sure if an anti-snore backpack like this will work, you can also sew a pouch or wear a small bag on your back and place one or two tennis balls inside. Doing so will make it uncomfortable to lay on your back, and can theoretically train you to roll onto your side. This cheaper method requires a little more DIY, but it mimics the same effect as the backpack; even though it's $60, the backpack would certainly be the much easier option to try.

Green Pillow

Featured as one of our favorite pillows for back sleepers, the Avocado Green Pillow is a comfortable, yet supportive option for those looking to get proper neck support and spinal alignment to help prevent snoring. The pillow is made of eco-friendly, hypoallergenic materials—Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified organic latex and organic kapok—so you can sleep comfortably knowing you're helping the planet and limiting the chances of any weird skin irritation. And perhaps the best feature is the Green Pillow can be customized to be more or less firm. Out of the box, the pillow has a medium plush feel, but with an extra bag of fill—that Avocado provides—you can make your pillow more supportive and firm. Pretty cool, right?

The Avocado Green Pillow has a number of significant co-signs, but the coolest one has got to be from surf legend Laird Hamilton. In his Men's Health Six Pack interview, Hamilton told us the Green Pillow was one of his key essentials. “I’m particular when it comes to sleep and pillows,” says Hamilton. “I need a nice, fluffy down-like pillow. This one doesn’t go too far out of my reach.”

TEMPUR-Neck™ Pillow

For a simple, affordable, almost guaranteed anti-snore solution, it’s hard to beat DMI’s Bed Wedge Pillow. The steep 30-degree angle is tied for the most aggressive option on this list for alleviating snoring. It’s available in three heights between seven and 12 inches, so snorers can choose the size that works for them. Like all wedge pillows, the versatile shape makes it great for elevating legs, knees, and feet for everything from relaxing to sports recovery to post-surgery care. Bonus: It’s the most affordable anti-snoring pillow on this list. If there’s a downside, it’s the lack of true memory foam construction, although this might be a pro for sleepers who prefer traditional high-density foam.

Pluto Pillow

In the past, a custom-made pillow would have cost a few hundred bucks. With Pluto—a brand that made a national appearance on Shark Tank—you can get a custom pillow starting just at over $100. It starts by taking a quick survey so Pluto can learn your sleeping position and your preference for thickness, firmness, and more. The process is fun, the price point is great, and the sleep is amazing. If you're looking for a pillow to help prevent snoring, you're going to want to answer your questions so you get a pillow made that's firm and got an ample level of support. The only drawback about customizing a pillow is you should have a solid idea of what you like, otherwise, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with the questions you're asked.

The Pluto Pillow is a favorite of our Gear and Commerce Editor, John Thompson. In our guide to the best pillows for stomach sleepers, he praised Pluto's ability to keep its shape over time. "As a combination side and stomach sleeper, my Pluto Pillow has proved to give me the most comfortable sleep over the past year. What I love is the pillow holds its shape and provides a cool, airy feeling every time I lay down," says Thompson.

Eucalyptus Down Alternative Pillow

Memory foam and wedge pillows aren’t for everyone. If you’re after a more traditional option to help alleviate snoring, there’s Sijo’s Eucalyptus Down Alternative Pillow. This down alternative solution uses eco-friendly (derived from eucalyptus) Tencel fabric and airblown Tencel fiberfill for a pillow that’s soft, yet supportive and ultra-cooling. It’s also antibacterial and hypoallergenic—perfect for sensitive sleepers and those with allergies. A fully machine-washable construction also makes it a snap to keep clean. The brief 30-night free trial is the least generous on this list but, with a price tag of around $70, we still think it’s a solid buy.

How to Choose the Best Anti-Snoring Pillow (for You)

Sleeping Position: The most important piece of information you should understand when looking for an anti-snoring pillow is your sleeping position. Whether you're a back sleeper, side sleeper, stomach sleeper, or combination sleeper, the trick to helping limit your snoring is making sure your body is in the most ideal position. Finding a pillow that caters to your sleeping position will help promote natural spine alignment and give you support in areas that will hold your head and neck in place.

Pillow Firmness: Of course, you want to find a pillow with a plush feel, but depending on how your sleeping position affects your snoring, you might need to go with something firmer and more supportive.

Pillow Loft: Along with firmness comes pillow loft, which (once again) comes down to knowing your sleep position. If you're a back sleeper you're going to want a medium loft pillow to keep your head level with your body and in sync with the natural curvature of your spine. Stomach sleepers will want a lower loft, as a thinner pillow helps keep their head and neck from falling into harsh angles that could create snoring. And side sleepers will want to look for a pillow with medium to high loft, as you're going to need to make up some space in order to keep your head on a leveled plane with your body.

Pillow Shape: The last to consider is shape. The cool thing about anti-snoring pillows is wedge pillows and body pillows are your friends. They can help put your body into a much healthier and natural sleep position (as can regular rectangle pillows too). According to Raj Dasgupta, an assistant professor specializing in sleep medicine at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, “You’re opening the airway up slightly—and even that can have a really dramatic effect on snoring.” Wedge pillows and body pillows can be an extremely effective in helping to open up your airways and keep you from turning.

How Does the Right Pillow Help Alleviate Snoring?

There are plenty of simple, natural methods to help minimize snoring. Losing weight, limiting night-time alcohol intake, and staying well-hydrated are all good places to start. Most people are inclined to snore more when sleeping flat on their backs, so finding a good comfortable side-sleeping position “cures” most mild snorers. Anti-snore pillows are designed to promote a better position that minimizes or eliminates snoring. The best way to do that is to keep the head and shoulders aligned which keeps the airway as open as possible.

For many people, especially back sleepers who just can’t sleep any other way, a wedge pillow made of high-density or memory foam is the best solution. These ensure that the head and shoulders are raised together in a natural position that opens the airway without misaligning the neck and spine. Another great benefit of wedge pillows is that they can help reduce acid reflux which is also common in people with sleep apnea.

Body pillows can be a great alternative too. By placing one firmly along your spine, these pillows are designed to keep you from turning onto your back at night. The method isn’t foolproof, however, so determined back sleepers are likely to roll on their backs anyway.

That underscores the fact that it’s impossible for anyone else to pick the best pillow—especially the best anti-snoring pillow—for you. “Pillows, like people, are very individualized, and picking the right pillow is very subjective,” says Dasgupta. The only way to know for sure is to take advantage of most manufacturers’ free trials, test a few models out, and see which works best for you.

What Is Snoring?

When we sleep, our tongues naturally relax and fall backward slightly in our mouths. The uvula and soft palate at the back of our throats also relax. All of this narrows our airways.

Gravity only compounds the issue and, for some people, it’s enough to restrict the airway too much, according to Dr. Winter. Breathing causes the tissues in the throat walls to vibrate and, if the opening is too narrow, that sound becomes harsh or hoarse, a.k.a. snoring.
