The denim jacket has been one of the most reliable items in a man's wardrobe since the trucker style was adopted by stylish guys and rebels who weren't gold prospectors. Denim jackets are easy to wear, easy to pair with other items in your wardrobe, and have a place in every style tribe (punk, prep, menswear influencer, etc...). They're also completely customizable. In the '60s, hippies went patch happy with their denim jackets. In the '70s, NYC gangs turned them into de-facto team uniforms. In the '80s, they were bleached and shredded (the way hair band staples should be). And somewhere in the last twenty years they went through and unfortunate period of being bedazzled to death.
But today, in 2017, designers are taking on the denim jacket once agin, offering fresh twists on the menswear staple. This new breed comes in oversized fits or laughably shrunken ones, are embroidered with patches, have patchwork motifs, come embellished with spikes, have pre-attached hoods or leopard print collars, and scribbled all over like your high school geometry notebook (and in some cases, all of the above). Right now a denim jacket is no longer just a denim jacket—it's your new favorite statement piece. Here are the best we've seen...
