Andie MacDowell can do it all: her striking features have made her the perfect covergirl candidate, her dramatic acting chops have brought her decades of success in movies, and as of late, you can even spot her on the small screen in Hallmark's The Way Home.

But the 65-year-old South Carolina native put in the work to get to where she is today, as she wasn't always the revered star we know her as — After all, her debut role in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes was dubbed over with Glenn Close's voice because her Southern drawl was too pronounced!

MacDowell's steady rise to fame

Before she made it big on the silver screen, MacDowell was scouted as a model, appearing in ads for everything from Yves Saint Laurent to Armani perfume. In 1984, she made her film debut as Jane in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, kicking off her successful career.

Work that followed include St. Elmo's Fire (1985) and appearances in Secret of the Sahara and Spenser: For Hire, before being cast in Sex, Lies, and Videotape in 1989. In the wake of Sex, Lies, and Videotape's success, MacDowell took on roles in films such as Green Card (1990), her revered part in Groundhog Day (1993), as well as Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).

Throughout the 2000's, MacDowell began making the transition onto the small screen with various television roles in series including Jane by Design in 2012, Cedar Cove from 2013 to 2015, Cuckoo, Maid, and most recently, Hallmark's The Way Home.

10. Multiplicity (1996)

Multiplicity stars Michael Keaton as Doug, a construction worker who finds himself so busy at work that it's difficult for him to make time for his family and himself. Meeting a scientist at one of his sites who is developing a method for cloning humans, Doug is cloned so that he can spend time at home with his family while his duplicate covers his duties on the job. Complications arise when two more clones are created, specifically involving his home life and his wife, played by Andie MacDowell.

9. Green Card (1990)

Andie MacDowell stars as an American who falls in love with the apartment of her dreams, only to learn that the building will only rent to a married couple. Coincidentally, Georges is a waiter who needs to marry an American citizen to remain in the country. Having to go to great lengths to prove their marriage's "legitimacy," the two find it harder than they anticipated having to put up with one another.

8. Unstrung Heroes (1995)

Andie MacDowell stars as Selma Lidz, the mother of a young boy named Steven, who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Steven temporarily moves in with his two eccentric uncles while he tries in his own way to cope with his mother's deteriorating health and learns a series of valuable life lessons from his unusual new guardians.

7. The Beach House (2018)

Andie MacDowell stars alongside Minka Kelly and Chad Michael Murray as the mother of Kelly's character Cara, who returns to her childhood beach house after losing her job. Reconnecting with her mother as well as old acquaintances will teach her more than she ever thought possible in her time in the place of her youth.

6. St. Elmo's Fire (1985)

St. Elmo's Fire, one of the most quintessential 80s movies out there, follows a group of college graduates as they deal with life and the expectations of the real world. The film stars Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham. MacDowell plays the role of Dale, who interns at a hospital and is on the receiving end of Kirby's (Esteves) affections.

5. Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)

MacDowell plays the role of Ann in Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Ann is trapped in a physically and emotionally unfulfilling marriage to John (Peter Gallagher), a successful lawyer, who unbeknownst to Ann, is having an affair with her sister. When John's friend Graham (James Spader) comes to stay with them for a period of time, Ann learns about a hidden side to him.

4. Short Cuts (1993)

Short Cuts reveals the lives of various loosely connected characters whose paths cross at various moments and through a series of different events. MacDowell plays the role of Anne Finnigan, the mother of a boy who's been in an accident. The film features stars ranging from Lily Tomlin and Julianne Moore to Robert Downey Jr. and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

3. Hudson Hawk (1991)

Bruce Willis stars as Hudson Hawk, a master thief who, after being released from prison, finds himself roped into a series of major heists just a day into his parole. But these aren't just any heists — he needs access to works by the one and only Leonardo da Vinci. Andie MacDowell also stars as Anna Baragli, a Vatican antiquities expert.

2. Groundhog Day (1993)

Bill Murray plays a cynical weatherman, disappointed at his assignment to cover the Punxsatawney, Pennsylvania Groundhog Day Festivities. When a storm leaves him stranded in the town, he wakes up the next day, only for it be an exact repeat of the day before.

Initially confused, he uses this to his advantage by engaging in a series of thrilling activities that will ultimately have no consequences, even attempting to seduce Rita (Andie MacDowell), his new producer. This time loop that only he is aware of takes him on the journey of a lifetime in this town he finds himself trapped in.

1. Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

Charles (Hugh Grant) doesn't have much luck in the romance department when it comes to long-term commitments. When he meets an American woman named Carrie (MacDowell), he feels that perhaps things could turn around for him.

However, unfortunately for Charles, his continuous run-ins with Carrie are soiled by their seemingly bad timing. Yet, Charles still holds hope that maybe the two are meant to be together.
