True Temp Blanket

Sleep Number makes some of our favorite beds, but it also crafts some pretty sweet bedding too. The Sleep Number True Temp Blanket is a filled blanket with next-gen 37.5 Technology (the same tech fabric used in high-end yoga pants and ski suits) that whisks away moisture and stops nighttime heat and humidity build-up. It’s light and airy with the perfect amount of fluff, so it feels just right even on the hottest summer nights.

Our panelists unanimously love this cooling blanket. From the soft-touch fabric to the colorways to just how well it cools ... it all just works. One, in particular, says, "I've been sleeping with this for years and it's a dream, especially in the Florida heat. I use it almost every night on the couch and in bed and have even taken it camping with me. My girlfriend thinks I'm a little obsessed."

It works great on its own but also plays well with Sleep Number’s other temperature-regulating and cooling bedding for one of the best total summer sleep solutions we’ve ever tested. Bonus points: It’s hypoallergenic and the sub-$200 price tag is incredible, especially for a premium brand-name blanket.

Revolutionary Cooling Blanket

Most budget cooling blankets are designed for seasonal use. Not so with Elegear’s Revolutionary Cooling Blanket which features a dual-sided design for year-round use. The Arc-Chill fabric side is cool to the touch, making it perfect for warm to hot weather. The reverse is crafted from Egyptian cotton that’s lightweight, breathable, and warming on cooler fall and winter nights. Both fabrics also help wick away moisture, so you never wake up feeling sticky or clammy, no matter the season.

The biggest draw for this cooling blanket is the price. At less than $40 for a roughly full-sized model, it feels like a steal, especially for a blanket that can be used year-round. On the downside, we agree with some buyer reviews that complain the Arc-Chill fabric side is too slippery with an unnatural feel. One of our reviewers noted, "It just slides right off me while I'm sleeping. It works but it's probably one of my least favorites this year." It's cool to the touch and is effective at regulating our skin temperature during the night. But we found ourselves making sure to use it with a flat sheet between us and the blanket.

Our final verdict: At less than $40, it’s well worth it. Just make sure you use this one with a sheet.

Adult Weighted Blanket

Why settle for a weighted blanket or a cooling blanket when you can have both? Luna’s aptly named Adult Weighted Cooling Blanket features a seven-layer construction with a soft bamboo fabric shell all over and cooling fabric on the inside. The material is ideal for hot sleepers as it’s designed to be cool to the touch and naturally wick away moisture.

Inside, tiny glass beads ensure even weight distribution over your entire body. What we especially love is the long list of available sizes and weights (from five to 30 pounds), so you can dial in your preferred level of comfort. Tip: A good rule of thumb is to choose a weighted blanket that’s around 10% of your body weight.

This is no doubt a specialty blanket looking for hot sleepers who want a cooling blanket and weighted blanket in one. For one of our testers, "It's pretty much perfect. I use the 20-pound Queen-sized version and sleep like a baby through the night. The silky bamboo fabric doesn't feel weird or artificial like some other cooling blankets." Most of our testers also loved the beaded weights, finding the provide a very even weight distribution throughout the length and width of the blanket. Although some prefer the heavy weighted fabric construction found in more premium weighted blankets like those by Bearaby.

Still, the combination of cooling fabric, weighted fill, and a sub-$100 price tag make this one a win if you're in the market for a niche blanket like this.

Bamboo Cooling Blanket

At 2.5 pounds and priced under $30, Dangtop’s Bamboo Cooling Blanket is the lightest and most affordable cooling blanket in our roundup. The bamboo fabric outer is soft, silky, and naturally cool to the touch making it a perfect bedtime blanket on hot summer nights. The size and weight mean that it’s versatile enough for the couch too without feeling too big. It’s available in 10 colors and patterns, so it’s easy to find a version to match almost any décor. We also love that it’s machine-washable, although it does require line-drying overnight which is annoying.

When it comes to bedding, you often get what you pay for. But this bargain-priced blanket was universally loved by our panel of testers. We love the featherweight design that works well as a standalone layer in warmer weather or layered up with sheets and a cozy down comforter in late fall and winter.

Upon first taking it out of the package, we noticed a distinct off-gassing smell that was strong but dissipated after leaving it in a screened-in porch overnight. We also found that the thin construction of this one can lead to premature holes and tearing, meaning you'll want to take extra care around children, pets, or when laundering it.

But, for less than $30, it's hard to complain, which is why this is our pick for the best budget cooling blanket of 2023.

Linen Quilt

For years, Brooklinen has been a go-to favorite of ours for premium bedding. The brand's Linen Quilt is the best cooling blanket on this list assuming money is no object. For just under $300 (closer to $250 if you can catch it on sale), you get a natural, European flax linen blanket with a stonewashed finish that feels luxuriously soft. It's more plush than any other in this year's roundup. Combined with a polyester fill, this blanket is breathable and cooling in the summer with just the right amount of warmth in the winter.

Two of our sleep panelist editors refused to give this one up, with one, in particular, noting: "This is seriously the softest natural blanket I've ever used. The luxe linen feels like I'm wrapping myself in a cloud. My dog and I fight over it every night!" Another reported that his significant other stole it from him the day he brought it home.

We also loved the diamond stitching on this cooling blanket. It adds durability and a dash of subtle style that allows it to work with any bedroom décor. Bonus: It's machine-washable and holds up to gentle dryer cycles too. No hang-drying necessary!

Aside from the sky-high price tag, it’s hard to find anything to dislike about this fantastic cooling blanket/quilt.

BedJet 3 Climate Comfort

If you’re one of the unlucky few who doesn’t have AC in their bedroom, doesn’t like it, or just can’t sleep with it because of the noise, even the best cooling blanket might not be enough when the weather seriously heats up. BedJet’s Bedjet 3 is an electric-powered, temperature-regulating sleep solution that's like the world's best, most high-tech cooling blanket. Think of it as an air conditioner and heater just for your bed.

The air-powered ventilation wicks away moisture (like an AC) and body heat even on the hottest days. In winter, it works like an electric blanket, only way better. It’s all powered by a remote control (or via the free mobile app) and even features biorhythm sleep technology for smart temperature control throughout the night. Basically, it learns how best to regulate your personal temperature. It works with your own bedding, if you don't mind one zone/temperature setting for the entire bed. BedJet's optional Dual Zone CloudSheet creates two separate zones that can be cooled or heated independently.

Testing traditional cooling blankets alongside this ultra-premium alternative is a little like comparing a Prius to a Porsche. Our editors mostly loved the concept, especially the versatility of being able to use it year-round. "It's like adding a thermostat directly to your bed!" said one of our tech-loving freelancers. Others felt like it was overkill and a little cumbersome to setup.

Overall, our final verdict: It works exactly as advertised. The catch? The roughly $500 price tag puts it out of reach for many. But, if only the best will do, and you want serious temperature regulation for your bedroom beyond what even the best cooling blanket can provide, this is your man.

Breeze Comforter

Eucalyptus gives bamboo a run for its money as one of the best natural materials for cooling blankets. The Buffy Breeze Comforter features a complete eucalyptus fiber construction, including both the shell and fill. The plant-based construction means it works great for year-round use, cooling in the summer and warming in the winter.

With zero essential oils, it’s hypoallergenic and safe for both kids and pets. Plus, the natural fiber naturally resists everything from mold to mites to dust, making it a great choice for allergy sufferers too.

Our sleep testers loved the smooth, buttery-soft fabric of this cooling blanket. "It feels so cool!" said one of our editors. We all loved the wave stitching pattern, too. It's subtle and works with any bedroom décor, plus it's designed to help keep the fill in place. In our experience, it mostly does its job, although one of our testers who's used this for over a year has noticed some "slumping" of the eucalyptus fill.

Unfortunately, this is the only blanket on this list that requires dry cleaning and line-drying which can be a hassle. It's also pricey at roughly $240 (closer to $200 on sale). But, if you're looking for the best cooling blanket with an all-natural construction that's safe for everyone in your household to use, this is a great buy.

Textured Blanket

BedJet offers the most high-tech temperature-regulating bedding option on this list, hands down. But if you want a high-tech option that's more affordable and doesn't require plugging in, we like Slumber Cloud's Textured Blanket. The secret is a NASA-Engineered Outlast fiberfill that actively regulates your temperature, absorbing, storing, and releasing heat automatically while you sleep.

This blanket is designed for year-round use, and we love that versatility. After sleeping with it for over a year, one of our testers confirmed that it really does keep cool in the summer and adds a touch of warmth in the winter. The lightly textured microfiber fabric cover was also a hit with our panelists. Every one of us found it to be plush, cozy, even inviting to the touch. The down alternative fill is a bonus, and we found it surprisingly good at making sure we didn't overheat, even in late spring and summer.

All of the materials are premium, OEKO-TEX 100 certified, meaning this cooling blanket is free of a long list of known harmful chemicals. This is another great hypoallergenic option for allergy sufferers.

At roughly $180, it's squarely in the midrange of our roundup, bordering on pricey. But our testers were hard-pressed to find much of anything to complain about beyond the price. If you're shopping for an upgrade to the many bargain-priced, sub-$100 cooling blankets out there, this one is worth a look.

Why Buy a Cooling Blanket?

To fall into the best, most restful sleep, our body temperature needs to drop slightly once we get into bed at night. For some, this comes easy (lucky), but finding that shut-eye while struggling between roasting, clammy sheets can be a special kind of hell for anyone who sleeps hot. The best cooling blankets are designed with high-tech fabrics that allow your body heat to move while wicking away moisture and sweat at the same time. Pair it with the best cooling mattress and cooling pillows you can afford, and it's like the holy grail of cool for hot sleepers.

Cooling blankets do actually work.

How to Find the Best Cooling Blanket

Bedding is a very personal thing, and there's no one best cooling blanket for everyone. But, there are two main points to consider when shopping for your own cooling blanket: Weight and materials.

Weight is mostly a matter of personal preference. If you like an airy feel to your bedding, especially on warm summer nights, a lightweight blanket may be best. On the other hand, if you prefer a snugger feel to your bedding—almost like a cool hug—a mid- to heavyweight cooling blanket might be for you. Whatever your sleep style, there’s an option for you, including everything from featherweight blankets to 30-pound weighted cooling blankets.

Choosing the right material for your cooling blanket can be a bit more complicated. You want it to feel right—soft, durable, and cool to the touch—which is mostly personal. But, you also want to find the right fabrics for warm weather sleeping, too. Generally, we recommend natural materials like eucalyptus and bamboo, which are cool to the touch and offer built-in moisture-wicking capability. Synthetic fibers can be good too, but be wary of alternatives like Lycra which are notorious for trapping body heat and sweat.
