The 10 Best Jewelry Boxes of 2024

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links."

Have you, or someone you know, recently started accumulating thin gold chains and trendy studs advertised on Instagram or worn by a certain pop star? Is your dresser, or the dresser of your "friend" — wink, wink — now teaming with little piles of birthstone rings and friendship bracelets? If you've answered yes to any of these scientific questions, then it sounds like you may need to get your life together with a jewelry box!

Jewelry boxes are the best way to store necklaces, bracelets, earrings, you name it. Whether it be fine jewelry made with genuine metals and gems or jewelry of the more costumed variety, these storage essentials make all of the difference when you're searching for the right accessories. Not only will they keep your collection organized, but jewelry boxes will prevent your pieces from gathering up dust and scratches.

"Oxygen, humidity and even dust will speed up oxidation," says Jess Gardner, founder and owner of jewelry company Hello Adorn. "Storing jewelry in an airtight container at room temperature and out of direct sunlight will keep it looking its best." So unless you want to clean your jewelry before every outing, it's time to invest in one of the best jewelry boxes of 2024.

Best Jewelry Boxes

What to Consider

Size and Storage Capacity

How much do you want to store in this box? If you're trying to get a large collection of jewelry into a tiny box, it's not going to work. We recommend going through your collection before taking the plunge so that you have a better idea of how much real estate you need inside of the jewelry box.

Once you know how much storage you need, think about how much space you actually have for displaying or storing the box. If your dresser is on the smaller side, consider a vertical organizer that won't have a large footprint. If you've got a walk-in closet with all the space in the world, go big! Why not?!

Organizing Features

Are you going to need large compartments for bangles? What about hooks for necklaces? Do you prefer drawers that slide out or levels that you pick up? Are you gifting for a person who has plenty of watches and might want cushions for them? Do they sport large pieces, or do they have a full ear cuff of tiny studs that require small sections for storage? Considering this and then checking out a jewelry box's organization features will save you from disaster.

Aesthetics

The words "jewelry box" may conjure images of a heavy wooden box, perhaps with a ballerina twirling to Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers." That's certainly one type of box, but there are so many other less dramatic ones out there! Think about what would look good in your home's current vibe. A mirrored box? A glass box? A colorful, patterned, or pastel box? Also, if you're searching for a gift, take to heart your giftee's aesthetic choices. If they're a minimalist, chances are you don't need all of the glitz and glam.

How We Chose

In short: We looked everywhere, we read everything (SO many reviews), and we talked to two pros who gave us some supremely helpful tips on how to find the right jewelry box... and also warned us about common mistakes consumers make when searching for one.

"One of the most common problems I see with people and their jewelry storage is that they use any old container they find," says Dustin Lemick, jewelry expert and CEO of BriteCo Jewelry Insurance. "It's important to use a container with a soft interior. Tossing jewelry into a hard plastic or wooden container can damage some jewelry, especially if they're not careful."

"It’s best to store jewelry in a box, drawer, or pouch with a soft liner," agrees Gardner. "Natural fiber is best. But beware, a lot of costume jewelry boxes have a fluffy white cotton lining — we’ve all seen them. It’s a very common way for a retailer to box up jewelry at the register. Those liners are often laden with chemicals and will tarnish silver in a heartbeat. If you must store your jewelry in these types of boxes, either remove the liner or put your pieces in a small plastic bag inside of the box so that the jewelry doesn’t directly touch the liner."

Soft interior, no fluffy white stuff — got it! With this advice in mind, we looked at Amazon (duh), on boutique and department store websites, and searched out some more unique choices. Our top picks are below, and while we did include one travel box, we also have a full list of the best travel jewelry organizers for your perusal.

Jewelry Box with Glass Lid

This beloved Amazon brand has dozens upon dozens of jewelry box models to choose from, but this particular design, a basic jewelry box with a glass lid, has thousands of 5-star reviews.

A whopping 86% of buyers think this product is utterly perfect. So what is it that people love so much about it? Is it the fact that the glass lid allows you to sneak a peek at what's stored inside? Or that the brand offers eight color choices with three different layer choices (two-layer, three-layer, or four-layer) for custom storage? Yes, but it's also the quality and aesthetic.

The only drawback to this box is that it doesn't come with necklace hooks, but if you ask Gardner, that's not a negative at all. She advocates for storing necklaces in their own soft fabric pouch (like microfiber or velvet) and always store them clasped. "Loose ends of chains are more likely to tangle," she says. "Even with each other."

2-Layer Jewelry Box Organizer

So you spent all your money on your actual jewelry, and now you need a place to store it, but you only have $20 left. No problem! We love this two-layer organizer from KLOUD City because it's super affordable and packed with stellar storage capabilities. This square case is over 10" long and wide. The top layer pops out to reveal large compartments below, ideal for bracelets.

Sprinkled among the reviews are words like "luxurious" and "elegant." People agree that it's a great gift for moms, nieces, granddaughters, and friends. There are 27 total compartments, and the box comes with a lock and key.

Venezia Jewelry Armoire

If you're looking for a more luxurious option, the Venezia Jewelry Armoire from MacKenzie-Childs is a piece of artwork all on its own. With its exterior "patchwork of iridescent patterns," it'll be the star of any dresser or bathroom countertop.

Of course, it's also extremely functional. At nearly a foot tall, the armoire contains four pull-out drawers, two side panels that open to reveal necklace hangers, and a top compartment with space for rings and smaller objects. Here's what I love about the way this one is laid out: not all the drawers come with separators. Sometimes you need big drawers for the bulky bracelet your kooky aunt gave you!

In fact, the sections are so large that if you like to keep jewelry in its branded box — Gardner advocates for this — you can fit the original packaging into the wide drawers. "Most high-end jewelry will come boxed in a branded pouch or jewelry box," she says. "Keep those! It’s a great way to store your jewelry and maintain the integrity of the investment." (This is also a good practice if you might re-sell your jewelry one day.)

Then again, if this one is too big, MacKenzie-Childs also has a small version with a lovely floral design over glass.

Rosewood Jewelry Box

Ah, a jewelry box grandma would approve of! This box, from luxury home goods brand Bey-Berk, has "classy" written all over it. It has three wide drawers and a glass top that reveals your prettiest jewelry up top. Made of solid wood and nearly a foot long (just picture a sub sandwich), we can tell this one has heft to it. The company has been making jewelry boxes since 1980, so we trust that they know what they're doing.

It would be perfect for gifting, but because it's on the pricier side, this is the one we'd recommend for big milestones like birthdays or graduations. Basically, it's the ideal "grownup" jewelry box.

Pink Wood Jewelry Box

Allow me to break the fourth wall to tell you that a very special source was used for this recommendation: my 4-year-old child. She has a metric-ton of costume jewelry and this Hello Kitty box is her prized possession. The petite pink box features the iconic Sanrio character on all sides and contains plenty of space for earrings (clip-ons, in her case) and trinkets.

Not that kids will be smashing this against the wall or anything — well, maybe — but this thing is solid. It's durable yet not too heavy, and the mirror is ideal for the gal who likes to check herself out while piling on the beaded necklaces.

3-Layer Acrylic Jewelry Organizer

This may look like a tiny lil' tray you could fit two Skittles in, but it's significantly larger than it appears. The square case is over six inches wide and long and has copious space for rings on top, earrings in the middle, and bracelets on the bottom. You can also swap the middle and bottom laters depending on what you use the most.

The clear material evokes the feeling of a vintage glass case, but it's actually acrylic. The product comes in three colors — the cream color isn't transparent — and the cutest detail is that you can pick an option with little cat ears as the top handle.

At this reasonable price point, you could grab a few to gift to every one of your closest pals! Just remember, our pros prefer a soft lining for fine jewelry, so this product is best for less expensive pieces.

Small Jewelry Storage Box

Those rotating jewelry storage boxes are so hot right now. This affordable option can store so many studs it'll make your head spin as seamlessly as these four revolving compartments.

It's definitely on the smaller side, but if you've hopped aboard the "tiny gold earrings" train and won't be disembarking for a few years, a rotating box is perfect. It'll hold all those flat backs, with their thread-thin posts, as well as your hoops and gems.

The drawback to a container like this, of course, is that it won't hold all your jewelry. There are no hangers for necklaces or large compartments for big bracelets; it's really just for earrings and potentially some rings.

You could also use this as your travel box, though you'll need to wear your larger pieces to your destination. Still, it's perfect for small stuff and because it's tall rather than wide, it'll save precious dresser real estate.

Custom Leather Jewelry Box

Personalized products are an underrated feature for Amazon. The online retailer now has all kinds of products you can customize, including travel-friendly jewelry boxes. This pocket-size box from Personalization Lab is tailor-made (literally) for bridesmaids, girlfriends, and anyone who travels frequently.

Not only do you get to pick the name you want, but you also get to select a flower to accompany the design. It's suggested that you choose the flower that corresponds with their birth month, but if her favorite flower is a marigold, get her a marigold! (Just don't choose a carnation. Nobody's favorite flower is a carnation.) Once you've customized the design, pick from one of eight colors.

While this does come with three soft hooks for necklaces, Gardner had a hot tip for traveling with necklaces: "If you have to travel with multiple necklaces together, make sure they’re all clasped and leave the clasps sticking out of the bag or pouch so they’re not dancing together at the bottom." Great call!

Necklace Organizer

Necklaces are notoriously hard to store. They get tangled in their own chains, in other chains, in bracelets, in everything. Even when they're not moving, they get tangled. (What are they doing while you sleep?!)

"Most people throw them into a container and then wonder why they're always getting tangled," says Lemick. Eliminate that problem with this necklace organizer, ideal for anyone who sports necklaces on the daily. The case features six hooks under the lid, with a pocket so the necklace pendants stay put. Then inside of square compartments, it has long sections for more necklaces.

Watch Case & Jewelry Organizer

For the man who has everything — except a place to store his watches, cufflinks, sunglasses, and chains — consider this beloved box from TomCare. It comes in variations of black, gray, and beige, and features a clear lid so he can gaze upon his goodies. We also like the dimensions of the compartments, the "classy" look of the box, and the durability for the price.
