There’s nothing quite like finding a pair of jeans with an incredible fit. When shopping for denim, focusing on the waistband, inseam, and rise is an excellent strategy for that fits-like-a-glove feel. If you also happen to have longer legs, though, finding the best jeans for tall women is all about the inseam.

Today's Top Deals

According to fashion and lifestyle expert Adylia-Rhenee Gutierrez , this is a tad difficult since not many brands offer tall sizes. “When you’re tall, like myself, [finding] jeans, or more specifically trendy jeans, can be a tedious process,” Gutierrez tells PEOPLE. To remedy this, Gutierrez recommends looking at the whole picture and how features such as fabric, inseam, rise, and length come together to fit your body.

Up ahead, we share our top picks for the best jeans for tall women, including several options recommended by experts, plus some favorites from our PEOPLE Tested team.

Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Women's Modern Bootcut Jeans

$26 at Amazon.com

There's nothing quite like pulling on a pair of jeans for the first time and feeling like they were made specifically for you. Not only do these jeans come in a wide range of sizes, they also have three inseam lengths to choose from, as well — the longest length being 33.5 inches. Nearly 20,000 shoppers have given them 5-star ratings, many emphasizing how comfortable they are thanks to the soft, stretchy fabric. Worth noting: Many reviewers say they run big, so we recommend sizing down one waist size.

Sizes: 2-28 | Fit: Mid-rise, snug in the thigh and relaxed below the knee | Inseam: 33.5 inches | Washes: 6

Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Wide-Leg Jeans for Women

See at Oldnavy.gap.com

There are more silhouettes and styles of denim available than ever, and lucky for us tall folks, high-rise, wide-leg denim is as popular as it’s been since the ‘60s or ‘70s. If you’re looking for jeans that are a little out of the norm, or are just a little more elevated than your typical, everyday jeans, this pair from Old Navy may just do the trick.

Our testers confirmed these have an extremely comfortable fit, sitting just below the natural waist and featuring a little bit of stretch to up the ante. One tester, a self-described "Old Navy jeans enthusiast," pointed out that all the pockets are big enough to fit a smart phone (although she wishes the front two pockets were even a bit deeper).

Sizes: 2-18 (also available in 00-30 regular and 0-18 petite) | Fit: Ultra high-rise, full-length, full leg, sits just below natural waist | Inseam: 35 inches | Washes: 9

Gap Mid Rise Girlfriend Jeans with Washwell

See at Gap.com

Gap is one of the best places to shop for jeans, especially if you’re looking for more options size-wise. For a mid-rise straight jean with a girlfriend fit, these jeans were well-liked by our testers who praised them for their sturdiness and comfort. Available in tall, petite, and regular sizes, these comfortable, everyday denim jeans come in four classic washes and are constructed from a cotton blend with some stretch.

This type of fabric content is a great choice for those who prefer more structured denim but want a tiny bit of stretch for that added flexibility and comfort. In fact, one of our testers even took these jeans on cross-country flight and she "was super comfy" the whole trip, while another tester remarked that she didn't feel restricted at all while wearing these jeans, despite them being medium-weight denim.

Sizes: 27-33 | Fit: Girlfriend, mid-rise (also available in regular and petite sizes) | Inseam: 30.5 inches | Washes: 4

These jeans, which come in a crisp black shade as well as five others, can easily be dressed up or down depending on how you accessorize them. With a slim fit through the thigh that breaks at the knee to fall loosely down to the floor, these slightly stretchy jeans hug your bum in the best way.

Everlane The Way-High Jean

$118 at Everlane.com

Cropped denim might be a little trickier if you’re tall (it’s sometimes hard to know whether the regular-length denim will be long enough, or whether you should just consider hemming a tall-length pair of denim).

However, these Everlane jeans provide some great options with two different inseams available. They’re also available up to a size 20. These straight-leg jeans sit high on the waist, and a bit of elastane gives them a supportive stretch that provides a “held-in” feel.

Sizes: 23-35 |  Fit: Straight leg, ultra high-rise fit | Inseam: 27.5 inches (regular) and 29.5 inches (long) | Washes: 8

Madewell The Tall Perfect Vintage Jean

While skinny jeans may be over according to Gen Z, there are still ways to rock fitted, more narrow jeans and look current. Take these Madewell jeans, for example. They have a high-rise waist with a tapered leg and ankle while still having a relaxed, modern feel. Plus, they’re available in tall-specific sizes, so you know they’ll work. And if you like them, you can always buy the regular-length version for a more cropped fit. Made with cotton and elastane stretch denim, these “mom” jeans come in several denim washes.

Sizes: 23-33 |  Fit: High rise, slim fit (also available in plus, petite, standard, and tall sizes) | Inseam: 33.5 inches | Washes: 4

J.Crew Tall Classic Straight Jean in White

White jeans have the power to transform a mundane look into an office-ready (or even happy hour-ready) ‘fit. This pair from the denim experts at J.Crew have just the right amount of stretch to them while still holding their shape (read: no feeling of bagginess as the day wears on). They're also more of a mid-rise waist than a high-rise, which is ideal for those with short torsos who need something right in the middle.

With a 32-inch inseam and a 11.25-inch rise, these pants offer a classic slim-straight fit that feels fresh and timeless. They're also quite opaque, so no need to worry about only wearing nude or white underwear underneath.

Good American Good Legs Skinny Jeans

$119 at Nordstrom.com

$129 at Bloomingdales.com

Good American is another one of our favorite brands for more inclusive sizing, including tall fits. We’re fans of the Good Legs Skinny Jeans because they provide a booty shaping effect and are also designed with a contoured waistband to prevent that pesky waist gap that can occur in some denim styles.

Our testers found these jeans to be lightweight and comfortable for everyday wear thanks to the stretchy denim construction that has 2 percent elastane. One tester described it as "more of a jegging material" while still looking like real denim. She especially loved how it accentuates the waist and that for tight-fitting jeans, they were more comfortable than other skinny jeans she's worn before.

Sizes: 00-32 (also available in regular and petite sizes) | Fit: Skinny, mid-rise fit with booty-shaping design | Inseam: 35 inches | Washes: 1

Things to Consider Before Buying Jeans

Inseam Is Important

“Tall women should pay attention to the inseam length when shopping for jeans,” stylist Samatha Brown says. “Some brands carry long lengths, which can be found online, so being prepared by doing this research ahead of time will make shopping easier. Many brands like Frame, Citizens, Levi’s, and Banana Republic offer longer lengths.”

Shopping in-store might be a little tricky, but if you do see a style you like while shopping, it’s great to know ahead of time that there might be a tall or long version with a longer inseam online.

Another aspect of denim to consider is where, exactly, the jeans should hit when wearing different types of shoes, as fashion writer Maggie Gillette explains. “If you're looking for a bootcut or trouser style jeans, you want them to touch the top of your foot and just break or crease slightly there,” Gillette explains. “This will ensure that they look long enough when you move or sit without the back of your pants dragging on the ground.”

Your Style Preference

Beyond that, it’s all about style. While classic boot-cut jeans, like the Levi’s 725 High-Rise Bootcut, are always a good choice, you can opt for ‘90s-inspired denim if you want to stay on trend. “We're seeing a return to '90s and early aughts style denim with a loser silhouette and a long line,” Gillette says. “These jeans pair perfectly with the season's boots and heels, and being able to find denim with a long enough inseam is a key to working these styles, especially for tall women.”

Stretch

Stretch is also worth considering — though it’s not essential. Denim with stretch can provide a more flexible fit, which is preferred in some more fitted styles like skinny jeans. The stretch can also soften the material and jeans feel a little more lived-in, too. If you prefer more structure to your jeans, opting for a style that doesn’t have stretch (100 percent cotton denim) is the way to go. Pure denim works well in baggy, wide-leg, boyfriend, or mom jean styles. They take some extra time to break in, but they can mold to your body for a more custom fit over time and are durable enough to last decades.

How We Tested

To find the best jeans for tall women, we first interviewed several experts on the subject to glean what qualities we should be looking for (as well as taking their personal tried-and-true recommendations). Later, we conducted a real-world test with bestselling denim brands, which included Levi's, Gap, and Good American.

We spent three weeks evaluating each pair, noting if the fit was true to size (including proper length), how comfortable they are, and how well they hold up in the wash. At the end of the testing period, we rated each on a 1-5 scale (with 5 being the best) against the following testing attributes: fit, quality, comfort, and durability. The jeans with the highest average ratings (that also work well for tall women) were then added to this list.
