You know, merely reading the name—wait for it—Harrison Ford? We're sure it brings up all kinds of emotions for you. The actor, now 80 years old, has been pulling us in for longer than any of us can remember. There's Rick Deckard. Indiana Jones. The damn President of the United States. Han Solo, ever heard of him? All played with Ford's icy glare, limitless confidence, and outstanding amount of soul.

If you haven't heard, the man is having a big year. (Not to mention the actor's prior year, also a big one, which saw him play the leads in a Taylor Sheridan series and Shrinking, a delightful Apple TV+ dramedy.) In June, Ford will close book on good ol' Indy in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. And in 2024, he'll join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for right now? Well, Ford is the cover star of Esquire's summer issue. To celebrate the occasion, we rounded up a few of our favorite Harrison Ford movies. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Is there a more famous archeologist than Indiana Jones? Fat chance. I bet you can't even name a real-life archeologist. That’s just how cool Indiana Jones is—a man who has been discovering rare artifacts, traversing dangerous dungeons, and punching Nazis for over 40 years. Only Ford could make a job about scrubbing old rocks this awesome.

Air Force One

Air Force One, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, sees Ford star as the President of the United States of America, James Marshall. In this tense political thriller, a group of terrorists hijack Air Force One, and the President must jump into action in order to save those on board—including his wife and daughter. In Air force One, Ford delivers some of his best lines as an action hero, Gary Oldman nails it as a terrifying terrorist, and Glenn Close stars as the first female Vice President (well, at least, in the Air Force One universe). It’s a star-studded thrill ride, and a perfect addition to any Ford film marathon.

42

42 tells the iconic story of Jackie Robinson. Ford co-stars with Chadwick Boseman as Branch Rickey, who signed Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, which changed the landscape of baseball for years to come. The monumental move launched Robinson's career—but it also made him the target of racism from the public, the press, and even his teammates. Despite the circumstances, Robinson rose to the challenge, becoming one of the best baseball players of all time. As Rickey, Ford dutifully supports Boseman's stellar turn as Robinson.

The Fugitive

It’s the worst day ever for Dr. Richard Kimble—played by a captivating Ford—in The Fugitive, when he’s framed for the murder of his wife and sentenced to death. Escaping custody, he’s chased as a fugitive while he seeks out the real killer. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards—including Best Picture, which was pretty rare for an action-drama film in the '90s.

The Call of the Wild

In The Call of the Wild, Ford stars as John Thornton, a disenchanted miner living in the Alaskan Yukon. His life changes when he meets Buck, a sweet pup who's been recruited as the newest member of a sled dog racing team. Soon after, John enlists Buck for the adventure of a lifetime—and together, they explore the treacherous snowy-landscape in search of gold. There might not be a more earnest (and sweet) performance from Ford than this.

Blade Runner

Arguably Harrison Ford’s best science-fiction film (sorry, Star Wars!), Blade Runner also takes the cake as one of the best noirs of all time. Ford plays a detective who is cool personified as he follows up on a homicide case involving synthetic humanoids called “replicants.” Blade Runner is dark, moody, jazzy—everything you need. Loosely based on a story by Philip K. Dick, Blade Runner has helped inspire countless sci-fi stories since its release, including a well-received sequel.

Working Girl

Ford might not be known for being a leading man heartthrob in romantic comedies, but he proved that he could easily sweep those types of roles—if he wanted to—in the 1988 classic, Working Girl. Starring Melanie Griffith as the titular working girl from Staten Island who commutes to her low-level corporate job in Manhattan, Ford plays a businessman who strikes up a lucrative deal with Griffith—as well as romantic entanglement. Little does he know that he’s being played by her, as she tries to climb her way up the corporate ladder. Coupled with a sweeping Oscar-winning song, by Carly Simon's “Let The River Run," this is a must-watch for Ford fans and rom-com fans alike.

Witness

In his first and only Academy Award-nominated performance, Ford solidified his presence as a leading man in Witness, the neo-noir crime thriller about a police detective who oversees the case of a murdered undercover cop. With a heavy-hitting cast of Kelly McGillis, Danny Glover, and Viggo Mortenson, this crime drama will keep you on the edge of your seat—and you'll see exactly why Ford earned an Academy Award nomination for this one.

Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Yes, yes yes. Don't sweat it—Han Solo is absolutely here. Perhaps Ford's most famous character of all time, Solo is the eternal embodiment of charm, tough-guy arrogance, and of course, heart. We're going with the Star Wars flick that gave us Carbonite Harrison, but any time Ford wielded the blaster is good enough for us.
