10 Best Dressed: Week of January 14, 2019
Style-savvy celebrities got into the swing of 2019 with looks that were directional and not at all redundant. Maggie Gyllenhaal, in A.W.A.K.E. Mode, and Saoirse Ronan, in Miu Miu, opted for chic minimalism, choosing gowns that were clean-lined and mostly unadorned (save for Ronan’s crystal trim). On the other end of the spectrum, arty fashion followers such as Brie Larson, in Christopher Kane, and Gabrielle Union, in Pyer Moss, chose fresh-off-the-runway styles that went the extra mile (Union’s Pyer Moss, for instance, comes from a collection that was a celebration of the African-American experience—one that certainly ties into If Beale Street Could Talk, the screening she attended). And of course, it wouldn’t be a best dressed list without some of the hippest It girls running around town: Irina Shayk and Bella Hadid both showcased ultra-leggy looks that were youthful, fresh, and counterintuitively modest. The takeaway? The year is off to a strong start.
