10 Best Dressed: Week of February 4, 2019

This week, the world’s best dressed braved frigid winter weather in ensembles that were defiant and impactful, combatting plummeting temperatures with sharp-shouldered suits, fruity colors, and unexpected trouser looks. At Sundance, Lupita Nyong’o hit the streets in a sprightly Versace puffer coat, proving dressing for warmth can still be a moment in itself . . . as did Kiersey Clemons, who wore an extra-puffy Sacai style right off the Fall 2018 runway. The week was all about unexpected pairings, too: Rihanna paired a boxy blazer with a more swishy skirt, while Grace Elizabeth, at Saks Fifth Avenue’s opening of L’Avenue stateside, paired tailored trousers with a ruffled, off-the-shoulder top. For even bigger evenings, style-setters embraced a winter-wonderland motif, slipping on precious gowns that had a delicate, special feel: Kate Bosworth, say, in a tiered, tulle Jason Wu number; Angela Sarafyan, in embroidered Monique Lhuillier. Meanwhile, for an appearance on Jimmy Fallon, Danai Gurira wore a long-sleeved Ellery dress in zingy yellow, the perfect sunny color for New York City’s subzero conditions.
