10 Best Dressed: Week of December 17, 2018

Is Nancy Reagan the ghost of Christmas past? For the world’s most stylish ‘tis the season of the phenomenal white dress or the single exposed shoulder. On Saoirse Ronan this meant a directional, Elizabethan folly by Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera; Margot Robbie was her regal foil in pleating and roses from Rodarte. Dakota Johnson, meanwhile, fell somewhere in between in Alessandro Michele for Gucci’s all-about-the-backside ball gown. Gemma Chan and Jennifer Lopez did winter white two ways—pared-back with subtle sparkle for Chan (in Miu Miu), and layered-on luxury for Lopez (in Stephane Rolland Couture). Going maxi yet minimal with a bare shoulder were the two star choices at the British Fashion Awards—the Duchess of Sussex in custom Givenchy by Clare Waight Keller, Victoria Beckham in her own design. Also in London, Keira Knightley was a beaming beauty in her Chanel Haute Couture skirt suit for her investiture. And then for something totally different there was Miley Cyrus, who marked the sixth anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting in a message tee about gun violence—a message that would have had Nancy (an ardent supporter of the Brady Bill) beaming down from heaven.
