These Are the 10 Best Commercial Gym Chains in the U.S., as Rated by Their Members

Getting in shape can be tough, and sometimes the venue where you work out can have a big impact on your success. Commercial gyms are readily available to exercisers everywhere as a one-stop shop for fitness.

If you live in a big city, you'll likely have the option to choose between several gym brands with locations across the country. To help sift through the noise, online fitness resource Total Shape compiled and shared with Men's Journal the 10 highest-rated health club chains in the U.S. according to their average Google rating.

F45 Training takes the crown with an average of 4.94 out of 5 stars across 742 locations. F45 centers around high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercises and circuits focused around everyday movement; the "F" stands for functional while "45" refers to the number of minutes in each workout.

Another popular HIIT gym, Orangetheory Fitness, clocks in at number two with an average of 4.81 stars across 1,329 locations. Other well-trafficked chains like Planet Fitness, YouFit, Crunch, Blink, and LA Fitness round out the list.

Notably absent from the Top 10 is Equinox, the luxury fitness club known for luscious amenities and eucalyptus-infused towels. It earned an average of 3.82 out of 5 stars from 102 locations nationwide, perhaps due to high customer expectations based on its price tag. Gold's Gym, meanwhile, ranks at number 11 with a 3.92-star average across 220 locations, and 24 Hour Fitness sits at 3.48 from 281 locations.
