Oof, these last few years have been a doozy and we could all probably use some serious belly laughs right now. That's why we've compiled the most highly anticipated comedy movies that are debuting in 2023.
From upcoming theatrical releases like Polite Society, a comedy about the limits one aspiring stuntwoman will go to stop her sister from marrying into a sketchy family, to a 19-year-old's parents setting him up with a "date" (wink, wink) in the raunchy Jennifer Lawrence movie, No Hard Feelings, there's a lot to laugh about this year. Plus, there are more off-beat comedies dropping, such as Wes Anderson's Asteroid City as well as the highly-anticipated live-action Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

House Party
When it premieres: January 13, 2023
What it's about: This remake of the 1990 movie of the same name follows two guys who, after getting fired from their house cleaning job that ended with cleaning LeBron James's mansion, decide to host a mega Hollywood party at the athlete's house to make some quick cash.

When You Finish Saving the World
When it premieres: January 20, 2023
What it's about: Jesse Eisenberg wrote and directed this comedy-drama about a disconnected mother and son who struggle to understand each other. Ziggy (Finn Wolfhard) performs music on livestreams to a ton of fans while Evelyn (Julianne Moore) works with domestic abuse survivors.
Get ready to see Finn sing his heart out in this movie!

Shotgun Wedding

What it's about: Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel play soon-to-be newlyweds whose wedding gets overtaken by criminals.
You People
When it premieres: January 27, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: Jonah Hill (who also co-wrote the movie) plays a guy who meets his girlfriend's parents and vice versa. Hilariously, things don't go as planned, as both sides of the new couple's family are vastly different.
Magic Mike's Last Dance
When it premieres: February 10, 2023
What it's about: The third film in the Magic Mike saga, Last Dance takes our favorite male exotic dancer to London for a new adventure.
Your Place Or Mine
When it premieres: February 10, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher star in this rom-com that gives The Holiday vibes. When two BFFs who live across the country decide to swap houses and lives for one week, they soon realize what they thought they wanted out of life might not be what they actually need.
Cocaine Bear
When it premieres: February 24, 2023
What it's about: Based on a true story (seriously!), this horror-comedy follows a bear who consumed a bunch of coke and goes on a drug-fueled rampage.

We Have a Ghost
When it premieres: February 24, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: After a family uploads a video that shows an actual ghost named Ernest in their new house, they become overnight sensations. Stranger Things's David Harbour plays the quirky specter.
Champions
When it premieres: March 10, 2023
What it's about: After he's ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities, a disgraced minor-league basketball coach realizes there's more to this team than meets the eye.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
When it premieres: March 17, 2023
What it's about: A sequel to the 2019 smash hit, Shazam!, this movie continues the adventures of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who can turn into his superhero alter ego (Zachary Levi) when he says the magic word, and his ragtag group of foster brothers and sisters.
Renfield
When it premieres: April 14, 2023
What it's about: In this new spin on Bram Stoker's classic novel, Dracula, Nicolas Cage plays the evil vampire and Nicholas Hoult plays his quirky henchman, Renfield, in this horror-comedy.
Fed up with his subservient role in Dracula's life, Renfield decides to ditch his thankless job after falling in love with a traffic cop named Rebecca (Awkwafina).
Ghosted
When it premieres: April 21, 2023 on Apple TV+
What it's about: Chris Evans and Ana de Armas co-star in this spy rom-com about a guy who falls head over heels for a girl he goes on one date with (#relatable). When she appears to have ghosted him, he flies to London to surprise her — only to find out she's in the CIA and bad guys are after her... and now him, too.

Polite Society

What it's about: Ria, an aspiring stuntwoman, wants to help her sister Lena get out of a wedding to a guy she thinks "is a bit of a smarmy wanker." When Ria finds out something unsettling about her future brother-in-law's family, she plans a wedding heist. Assuming she can pull this off, those stuntwoman skills will finally be put to the test.
Love Again

What it's about: Grieving the death of her fiancé, Mira sends texts to his old cell phone number, not realizing that it’s been re-assigned to a journalist, Rob. As the texts land on his phone, Rob can't help but fall in love with the woman behind the words.
Strays

What it's about: This isn't your ordinary dog-based comedy. Think movies like The Hangover or 21 Jump Street, but with dog protagonists instead of human ones.

Asteroid City

What it's about: Wes Anderson is back with a new movie about a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention that gets interrupted by out-of-this-world events. The stellar cast includes Stranger Things's Maya Hawke, IT's Sophia Lillis, and Glass Onion's Edward Norton.
The Perfect Find
When it premieres: June 23, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: Following a high-profile firing and break-up, fashion editor Jenna is ready return to work — but her comeback is made a little more complicated when she falls for her younger coworker, who also happens to be her boss's son.
No Hard Feelings

The Out-Laws
When it premieres: July 7, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: What would you do if you found out your fiancée's parents — your future in-laws — were secretly bank robbers? That's what Owen has to figure out when the bank he works at is held up by the Ghost Bandits the week of his wedding.
Theater Camp
When it premieres: July 14, 2023
What it's about: Real-life couple (and Broadway stars) Ben Platt and Noah Galvin co-star in this mockumentary about a group of people running a theater camp in upstate New York. After the founder goes into a coma, the eccentric staff members are forced to team up with the founder's "crypto-bro" son to keep the camp alive. As they say in theater, "The show must go on!"
Theater Camp had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023.
Barbie
When it premieres: July 21, 2023
What it's about: Greta Gerwig directed and co-wrote this live-action adaptation of the iconic Mattel doll. The plot is currently being kept under wraps, but the internet freaked out when first-look pics of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, dropped.

Zoey 102
When it premieres: July 27, 2023 on Paramount+

What it's about: Remember when regular people took over the stock market in 2021 and made GameStop the world's must-have company, and got super rich doing it? Dumb Money tells that incredible true story.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget
When it premieres: November 10, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: Premiering 23 years after the original Chicken Run dropped, this animated sequel continues the misadventures of plucky Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) and charming Rocky (Zachary Levi).
Some of the original voice artists are reprising their roles, including Imelda Staunton as Bunty and Jane Horrocks as Babs. If it's been a hot minute since you've seen the OG film, Bunty and Babs are Ginger's BFFs.

Next Goal Wins
When it premieres: November 17, 2023
What it's about: From the director of JoJo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi gives us a new comedy about the true story of a truly terrible American Samoa soccer team who infamously lost a 2001 FIFA match, 31-0. Hoping to improve their team, they hire an unorthodox coach.
The movie is based on the 2014 documentary of the same name, which you can stream on Kanopy now.
A Family Affair
When it premieres: November 22, 2023 on Netflix
What it's about: Zara (Joey King) finally decides to quit her demanding job, but her movie star boss (Zac Efron) isn't totally out of the picture when she discovers that he's now actually dating her mother (Nicole Kidman).
