The 10 Best Beanies for Women, According to a Fashion Editor

All knit caps are the same, right? Well, not exactly. To determine the best (and most fashionable) beanie options this winter, we turned to a pro. Here, our fashion editor, Dena Silver, shares her thoughts on the ten best beanies for women.

1. ACNE STUDIOS PANSY RIBBED-KNIT WOOL BEANIE

“This is the quintessential fashion-girl hat,” Silver explains. “It’s kind of status-y since that glum-looking face has become synonymous with the Stockholm-based brand Acne Studios.” It’s practically begging to be featured on the ‘gram.

2. ASOS DESIGN Chunky Knit Beanie Hat

This chunky knit looks like your grandma made it for you (in the best way possible). “This guy is super cozy and won’t feel too tight on your head, if that’s something you hate,” Silver points out.

3. Vince Ribbed Cashmere Beanie

Silver suggested this one to her friend who was on the hunt for a fancy gift. “It’s great quality and not trendy at all,” she reasons. Considering it’s made of 100 percent pure cashmere and comes in simple shades of gray and black, we’d have to agree.

4. L.L. Bean Katahdin Pom Hat

Retro is huge this winter, and we’re not complaining about it. Lean into the trend with this vintage-inspired hat. The fun, colorful pattern caught Silver’s eye. “I also love how the logo is huge, because it feels ironic, but L.L. Bean is truly the best,” she says.

5. Everlane The Teddy Beanie

“Everyone has a teddy coat, but I haven’t seen anybody who has a teddy hat. Plus, I love that this Everlane hat has some texture to it,” Silver explains. The merino wool and nylon blend is incredibly soft too.

6. White + Warren Striped Cashmere Beanie

“I love a fun accessory that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This striped hat is so colorful but it’s still wearable, since it will go with practically anything,” she says about this knit from White + Warren. Pair it with a ski jacket and some snow pants and you’re ready for a day on the slopes (or just for some après ski action).

7. Carhartt Men’s Acrylic Watch Hat A18

Sure, this is technically a men’s hat, but the majority of its Amazon reviews actually come from ladies who love it. “You can easily find a color you like,” Silver reasons. Plus, they’re so affordable that if you lose one, you won’t break the bank replacing it.

8. Eugenia Kim Maddox Angora & Ostrich Feather Pom Beanie

Behold the luxe beanie you didn’t know you needed. “It’s fancy and playful and pretty ridiculous,” Silver emphasizes. It’s also perfect for any black-tie winter events you have coming up—just add a silk gown.

9. H&M Ribbed Hat

At only $10, you can afford to splurge on this H&M cap in every beautiful pastel color. Silver is a fan of the neon orange: “It’s a really nice color to wear when everything around you is black and gray and depressing because it’s January.”

10. Howlin’ King Jammy Hat

Silver actually owns this 100 percent lamb's wool hat, so we know it has to be good. “I got it in Paris in a mint green shade. This is just a really good hat that I haven’t seen anyone else wearing…yet,” she explains.
