There’s a French culinary phrase, “mise en place,” that I think of every morning as I get ready for the day. It means “everything in its place,” and refers to a prepared setup of ingredients that a chef arranges within hand’s reach -- a little round-up of dishes, with things pre-measured, so that you can focus on cooking, tasting, and not scrambling (Remy from Ratatouille certainly has one). A good mise en place is what separates the calm chefs you see on a cooking show, from the chaotic sort on cooking reality shows who flail about in pantries.
Ina Garten has a mise-en place. A contestant on Baking Impossible does not. I prefer to be more Remy or Ina Garten-like than not, and I've curated my personal beauty "mise en place," which includes a sunscreen, an illuminating concealer, and a few of new launches for April. In addition to getting me ready for the day, they also have great vanity appeal. Here are some of our favorite beauty "mise en place" items for the month, including what you need for a vacation-like glow, tropical scents, and dewy skin. —Kathleen Hou, Beauty Director

Hand-Care Tray
“In my organizational journey, I've learned that there is no such thing as too many trays. Trays hide clutter and give structure to random beauty knick-knacks, like the random spoons you get from fancy skincare moisturizers and cotton pads. Diptyque's new Bathroom Decor collection features shell stands for their small candles, and trays made of biscuit porcelain.” —Kathleen Hou, Beauty Director
Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Hue Drops
“Glow Recipe’s crowd-favorite hydrating and brightening serum gets an upgrade thanks to gold and bronze pearl pigments that suit every skin tone and add a subtle glow.” —Katie Berohn, Beauty Editor
Les Bases à Parfumer Huile Pure
“It might seem strange for a perfumer to create something un-scented (or a waste of their talents), but Cartier perfumer Mathilde Laurent describes her newest project as important as a well-timed pause in a symphony. Mix the unscented body cream (an olfactory rest) with perfume drops to create a customized, “choose your own adventure” solution to dry skin.” —K.H.
Suzanne Syz x David Mallett Hair Pin
“It’s always good to have a safety pin on hand in case of emergencies, so why not just wear it in your hair? This hair pin is made with 18k gold and makes the perfect accessory to dress up any style.” —Tasha Nicole Smith, Beauty Assistant
