If you (like us) use any type of weather to book a trip, you know there’s no wrong time to travel. After all, nothing feels better than wading across the warm sand when temperatures have dipped below freezing in your hometown or racing down the side of a mountain drenched in a layer of pristinely white snow during peak season.

In either case, traveling is something we’d all like to do more. Even celebrities like actress Busy Philipps—who recently revealed her most interesting (and intimate) hotel habits for Hotels.com’s new series Perfect 10—caught the travel bug. And we chatted with the starlet and mother of two about her upcoming travel plans, her favorite cities to visit, and her most useful essentials.

House Beautiful: Which hotel visit was your favorite of 2022?

Busy Philipps: My trip to Stockholm with [my 14-year-old] Birdie was a highlight. We stayed at Ett Hem, which was really special. Generally, when I travel, I like staying at smaller hotels where you can feel like you’re a part of the city and not so much like a tourist. Before the pandemic, I traveled to New York all the time and loved to stay at The Mercer downtown.

House Beautiful: What is your favorite city to visit?

Busy Philipps: I love going to Charleston, and it’s a part of my Perfect 10. It’s less of a favorite city and more of a respite for me. I try my hardest not to take jobs out of town—especially during the school year— but when I did Vice Principals, we shot in Charleston for most of the summer, so it was perfect. I spent a ton of time there doing that show, and we all just loved it so much.

House Beautiful: Do you prefer solo trips or going in groups with friends and family?

Busy Philipps: I’m not great in big groups of people because big groups really stress me out, so I prefer small groups of friends. When you’re a parent, it’s great if there are other parents that you like enough to travel with. That’s the ideal situation because everyone is sort of taken care of.

House Beautiful: Finally, any carry-on must-haves?

Busy Philipps: A lot of people make fun of how much I pack for trips. I can get crazy, but it also depends on where I’m going. My absolute must-have for any trip, though, is one of those super-absorbent microfiber hair towels. No matter how fancy the hotel towels are, nothing feels as comfortable or dries my hair better than these ones.
