10 Adventurous Date Ideas That Aren't Skydiving Because Hell No

Because no one should have to jump out of a plane on a date.

Even if we lack the courage (or money) to pursue one of those Bachelor-style adventurous date ideas, we can all stand to benefit from activities that bring us outside our comfort zones. The adrenaline rush can add excitement to your relationship, and doing something new and interesting lets you create a special memory together. Plus, there's just something about surviving a situation where you both feel like you're going to die that strengthens your bond—even if you're actually safe the whole time.

We compiled a list of places you and your S.O. can go to explore your adrenaline-junkie sides. Bonus: You won't find skydiving anywhere on it, because we can assure you that gravity still works and there's no need to jump out of a plane to test it.

1. A trampoline hall

These big buildings filled with trampolines of varying sizes will let your inner children out and push you to challenge yourselves—and perhaps each other. Then, you can roll around together in the foam pit when you sink in and inevitably can't get out.

2. A climbing gym

Since you're relying on each other to control the ropes attached to your harnesses and make sure you don't fall to your death, climbing is like a high stakes trust exercise. But don't worry—most gyms are well-supervised and it's not nearly as dangerous as I just made it sound. Plus, if you like it, you could always go for an actual hike.

3. A theme park

There's nothing like a Six Flags rollercoaster to satisfy an adrenaline junkie's cravings. Sit next to each other and hold hands to make it romantic—or even just slightly less terrifying.

4. A rollerskating rink

This is adorably old school, but hold hands at your own risk. If one of you goes down, the other does, too.

5. The zoo

A trip to the zoo just might tap into that primal part of your brain that still thinks you have to protect one another from wild bears. And if not, it'll still be cute.

6. An outdoor dance class

Now that it's getting warmer, look out for salsa or swing lessons in the park and at other outdoor venues where everyone can watch you step on each other's feet. Public humiliation is its own form of adventure.

7. A Turkish coffee cup reader

Emotional health expert and NYC-based licensed psychotherapist Katherine Schafler recommends this coffee date with a twist to bring you closer. Once you're done with your drinks, the residual coffee grounds will form patterns on the bottoms of the cups, and a professional reader will explain what they mean for your futures.

8. A music festival camping trip

If you're more into bands and DJs than hiking and campfires, pitch a tent at a music festival and camp out. All the benefits of sleeping under the stars, and you'll never miss a song.

9. A ghost tour

Even if you don't believe in the supernatural, learning about all your city's ghost stories while visiting the sites where they took place will leave you wondering.

10. Trapeze lessons

Learn how to flip like acrobats—or like people who are barely hanging on but nevertheless clapping for each other all the way down. It would be very Sex and the City of you.
