The New #1 Netflix Show Looks Bizarre—But It Has a 98% Score on Rotten Tomatoes
This brand-new Netflix series, Sweet Tooth, is a prime example of why you shouldn’t judge a show based on its cover photo. Although the poster looks terrifying, it’s actually a really heartwarming story.
Sweet Tooth just premiered on the streaming service a few days ago, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Lucifer, Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, Cocomelon and Kim’s Convenience.)
Sweet Tooth consists of eight episodes and takes place ten years after “The Great Crumble,” an apocalyptic event that led to babies mysteriously being born half human, half animal. Since little is known about the hybrids, they’re often targeted, forcing many to isolate themselves from the public.
This includes Gus (Christian Convery), a part deer, part boy, who has been living in seclusion for a decade. When he befriends a loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), the pair embark on an adventure in the hope of learning more about their past. Along the way, Gus encounters several enemies and obstacles that force him to think on his feet hooves.
Although Sweet Tooth is based on the namesake comic book by Jeff Lemire, the series was adapted for Netflix by Jim Mickle (Mulberry Street). Other cast members include Adeel Akhtar (Dr. Aditya Singh), Stefania LaVie Owen (Bear), Dania Ramirez (Aimee Eden), Aliza Vellani (Rani Singh), Will Forte (Pubba), Sarah Peirse (Dr. Gladys Bell), Neil Sandilands (General Abbot), Naledi Murray (Wendy) and Amy Seimetz (Birdie).
Oh, and did we mention it has a 98 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes? Let’s see if it lives up to the hype.
