Why This New Moisturizer Comes With Homework

When three wellness experts team up to launch a moisturizer, it’s only fitting that the benefits are more than just skin-deep. That’s the idea behind Biossance’s The Revitalizer, a new moisturizing serum made of 100% plant-derived squalane, a compound found naturally in the body (For the unfamiliar, squalane is an emollient that can be found in small amounts in humans, sharks, and certain plants).

But dewy skin isn’t the only goal for the three women behind the brand: celebrity osteopath Vicky Vlachonis, chef/author Candice Kumai, and talk show host/beauty expert Nitika Chopra. That’s why they, along with Biossance, are spearheading a 30-day program called The Embodied Project, which provides custom-selected articles and advice to help boost your mind and mood, along with your skin. The program is free through the site, and comes with a sample of the moisturizer.

While daily readings might sound a little like schoolwork, the women are adamant that it pays off. “We all know that working on ourselves is important, but it doesn’t have to feel like work,” Chopra tells Yahoo Health.

Here’s how it works: You’ll take a two-minute survey, which will place you into one of five categories geared toward a certain personality type. Then, based on the specific category you placed into, you’ll received specialized tips and inspirational ideas to help you live a healthier life — “in mind, body, and spirit,” says Kumai.

The tips — covering the gamut of wellness, from diet, to self-love, to mindfulness, Vlachonis says — will come in the form of weekly newsletters. Here’s the thinking: A physical moisturizer can only go so far. Want to glow, from the inside out? You need to go deeper, cultivating the type of joy that leads to bigger smiles and fewer frown lines.
