Why Am I More Sore Two Days After A Workout?

Ever completed a workout and left the gym feeling a little sore, only to have every muscle hurt two days later? You were likely experiencing DOMS, or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. Though you don’t feel the effects for roughly 24 to 48 hours after you call it quits, DOMS actually begins during your workout. It kicks in when you start a new workout or increase the intensity of one you’re already doing, causing small micro-tears in your muscles. Your body repairs the tears, making your muscles a little stronger — and you unable to lift your arms to shampoo your hair.

Yahoo Health took a look at why DOMS happens and what you can eat, do, and take to stop the pain — and prevent it from happening in the first place. Find out how in the video above.
