What’s In My Gym Bag: Celebrity Fitness and Nutrition Coach Adam Rosante

We’re taking a peek inside our favorite health and fitness experts’ gym bags to uncover their must-have gear and favorite products.

Name: Adam Rosante, Celebrity Fitness & Nutrition Coach

Where I work out: Mostly at Equinox in [New York City] and Body Tech on the east end of Long Island, but I travel a lot, so tend to find the strangest of places to work out. I always say that anywhere you can carve out a few feet of space can be your training center. Sometimes that means sprints and heavy log throws and carries on the beach!

My favorite workout: It’s really hard to pick a single favorite workout. I love classic strength training and have been boxing since I was in elementary school, but if pressed to choose an absolute favorite, metabolic conditioning (where you’re working with and without weights at super high intensities) would win. It’s in those moments during a really tough workout where you kind of feel like you’re gonna die, that you can break through barriers and strengthen your most important muscle: your mind.

My fitness routine: I work out five to six times per week, alternating classic strength training and metabolic conditioning circuits, and always include plenty of mobility work with those Tune Up Balls. Being strong shouldn’t mean that you’re constantly in pain. I also meditate every morning, eat really good food, and laugh my ass off with family and friends. Your fitness routine should extend outside of the minutes you spend working out.

What’s in my gym bag:

  1. C9 Champion tank and shorts. This is my favorite workout gear. It’s designed for performance, looks great, and is unbeatable when it comes to price. The shorts were actually sweatpants that I altered. My wife loves their sports bras. I keep hearing about all other sportswear brands trying to knock them off. I find that hilarious given that the C9 sports bras are $15.

  2. Blender bottle with Jay Robb Whey Protein. Protein is the building block of muscle. I keep a scoop of Jay Robb whey protein in this blender bottle. It’s my favorite as it comes from cows that weren’t treated with synthetic growth hormones. After a workout, I just add water, shake, and I’m good to go!

  3. Tune Up Fitness Balls. If there’s one thing people can do more of, it’s work on their mobility. You’ll erase pain and actually improve your performance in your workouts. These things are hands-down the best. They have my foam roller feeling all sorts of jealous.

  4. Every Man Jack Deodorant. No one wants to smell how hard you’re working. This brand is totally free of weird chemicals.

  5. Brush. I’m not finicky about brushes. This is something I grabbed at a drugstore on my way to the gym one morning.

  6. iPhone. This goes on airplane mode and is used exclusively for music. I mostly listen to hip hop during my workouts. Not that you really need a study for this, but music that gets you personally amped up has been shown to enhance the intensity of your workouts.

  7. Urban Ears Earbuds. The design on these is awesome! It basically locks into your ear. They stay put during my toughest workouts.

  8. Magazines. They say print is dead? Not in my house. I’ve loved magazines since I was little. These are two of my fave. I actually designed the feature workout in this latest issue of SHAPE! It’s a surf-inspired bodyweight routine that you can do anywhere.
